The Huddersfield Narrow is one of 3 canals that cross the Pennines in Northern England. It runs from Aspley Basin, Huddersfield, to Piccadilly Basin in Manchester. A factory yard was built over the canal in Huddersfield, and to make the canal navigable again, a lock was "moved" from one side of the yard to the other, to lower the water level and allow boats to pass underneath the yard. #canals #cycling www.boddyonthetowpath.co.uk

Today I cycled 26 miles along the Rochdale and Bridgewater Canals from Piccadilly Basin Manchester to Preston Brook, near Runcorn.

Spectacular industrial architecture coming out of Manchester, especially round Castlefield.

Weather was misty but dry. Apart from tomorrow (Sankey Canal) probably my last ride of the year. I have the winter to write everything up, get the website updated, and plan next year's assault on the Leeds Liverpool. #canals #cycling www.boddyonthetowpath.co.uk

There are a few impressive little aqueducts on the Stratford Canal. This one, at Yarningale, unusually leads straight into Bucket Lock. It's a good cycle down from Shirley (where I started the ride), but when I first attempted it in May 2024 I had to abandon it because the built up leaf mould and wet conditions made progress impossible. #canals #cycling www.boddyonthe towpath.co uk

Been away for 6 weeks touring in Spain and Portugal. During the (few) rainy days I had time to finish off all the drawings from my rides this year, including this one of Uppermill Viaduct on the Huddersfield Narrow. #canals #cycling www.boddyonthetowpath.co.uk

Two rides over 2 days: Hebden Bridge to Piccadilly Basin over the Rochdale Canal, then today I did Standage Tunnel (Diggle) to Piccadilly. Two trans-Pennine routes finished, which is satisfying. 50 miles altogether #canals #cycling www.boddyonthetowpath.co.uk
