I like to have a little fun with my presentations. This one was about the flawed concept of "untrammeled wilderness" in the modern age. Given the massive fires, it's quite a relevant topic at the moment.

@cstross I was wondering your thoughts on this but others are encouraged to chime in.
If you were forced to speculate, would you say human brain tissue is becoming more specialized or generalized over a generational timespan?

'There’s been an extra edge to their critiques that’s gone beyond standard-issue NIMBYism about too-tall buildings and preserving neighbourhood character. There’s been a persistent sense of disbelief that Indigenous people could be responsible for this futuristic version of urban living. Possibly the most based thing I've ever seen???
First Nations in Vancouver Canada, ungoverned by local zoning restrictions, choose to build a gargantuan skyscraping housing development called Sen̓áḵw with over 6000 units. Since it's on tribal land, NIMBYS can't do anything about it, and their questionable statements opposing the project are quite revealing.

Trump should use the IEEPA on sanctuary cities—fine because the issue involves foreign nationals—to force them to upzone.
This preempts local zoning (+ parking, lot size & setback rules) to make by-right, sixplex in any residential zone, five on one near bus lines & 17 on one near train stations. Housing would be affordable again.
Plus it would be on stronger legal ground than the HHS eviction moratorium a few years ago.

"Everyone having basic needs met" is a good goal, but not one that can be achieved via #degrowth. In fact, most of the things degrowthers say they want would actually require increased growth.
Getting housing, internet, public utilities, education are all part of economic activity, and they're all counted in GDP; producing more of them requires growth.
