The bright winter sun streams through a meters-long line of clerestory windows above matching cherry cabinets set over maroon concrete floors. They stretch improbably far to the vanishing point.A lively fire flickers opposite in the grey hearth.

The degree to which the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Louis Penfield house brings the outside in is remarkable. The height and openness of the windows is of course a big part of it, but the continuation of the concrete floors and tan wall panels between interior and exterior lets your eye just slide in and out effortlessly. Reminiscent of a spell.
And in case anyone believes there is absolute perfection in this world, the bench I’m sitting on to take this picture is uncomfortable due to thin cushions, and the air is chill because single-pane windows.

A mix of textures from Victorian to modern caught my eye. Unfortunately this block is much more pleasant to see from above than to to walk down. #oakland #textures #TextureTuesday #photography #buildings #architecture

It looks like the hotel is staring forward, eyes bulging, two dormer windows as eyes and a hallway vanishing at infinity as the gaping mouth.

A hiker-researcher is traversing the full length of the Alps, collecting water samples as he goes. His goal is to finish in 112 days, which is the emergency number, like 911 in the U.S. or 999 in the U.K. I couldn’t find an English-language source so here’s the French. Really cool! https://reporterre.net/A-28-ans-ce-climatologue-traverse-les-Alpes-en-112-jours
