All members of the Aviation Safety Advisory Committee were dismissed on Jan. 21. The Committee, created by Congress in the wake of the PanAm/Lockerbie bombing, still technically exists within DHS but has no members.

For everyone all a-chatter about the reports of a massive buyout offer for federal employees: read the memo.
Some of the breathless reporting makes this sound as if you’ll get 8 months of salary for resigning by Feb. 6. Read the memo, though, and it sounds as if the deal is “give notice by Feb. 6 & we’ll let you keep your current WFH arrangement, assuming you’re not fired for some other reason in the meantime, until Sept. 30, at which point you’re out.”

Tom Cotton (NSDAP - Ark.) is salty because Senate Dems are delaying—not blocking, mind you, just delaying—confirmation of some of Trump’s nominees. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/us/politics/democrats-trump-nominees.html
Weirdly, some guy with the exact same name blocked confirmation of an Obama nominee because she & Obama were friends and it would "inflict special pain on the president.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cotton#Cassandra_Butts_nomination She eventually died of leukemia without ever receiving a vote.

Weather forecast for DC on Sunday is calling for 3-4” of snow & temperatures dropping more or less all day Monday. Monday’s high of 23° F will occur at 12:01am. We’ll have wind gusts up to 27mph as a special bonus. (Naturally occurring wind, I mean; no telling what velocity anthropogenic wind gusts will reach.)
I look forward to hearing certain deranged people complaining that District government is to blame and should have raked up all that snow to clear the Mall.

Did she deserve to be arrested? Probably not. The Secret Service deals with dumb comments like this all the time & goes out to do a knock-and-talk. Most subjects get off with a warning & go on with their lives; this doesn’t seem much different.
Did she deserve to held in lieu of $100,000 bond? Ridiculous. With no criminal history & strong ties to the community, she should have been released without bond.
If the DA has any sense, s/he will allow a pre-trial diversion, or what in New York /2

I’m seeing a lot of posts mischaracterizing what this woman said. It wasn’t just “Delay, deny, depose.” She then said, “You people are next.” https://www.wfla.com/news/polk-county/lakeland-woman-threatens-insurance-company-says-delay-deny-depose-police/
That’s a chargeable threat of harm. It doesn’t matter whether she had the means to carry out the threat. What matters is whether a) a reasonable person would perceive the statement as a threat and b) the speaker had some subjective understanding that the statement could be understood as a threat. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/22-138_43j7.pdf. /1

Adding senators who won in 2020 w/53% or less, still a wash:
Even looking at 2028, when Trump will probably still be on the ballot,* the picture is no brighter. 19 Reps & 15 Dems up:
Grim.

I hate to be the bearer of MORE bad news, but …
Although there are 14 GOP senators up in 2026 vs only 10 Dems, the opportunities for pickups are few & there are D seats that will be tough to defend.
MOST VULNERABLE: Senators who won in 2020 with <50%:
2020 win 50-51%:
