I looked over the email accounts that small group of spammers we dealt with last week was using, found some email providers that everyone should want to block, reposting them on #Fediblock / #InstanceBlock for other #Moderation teams / #FediAdmin to block as well...

Bonjour! #TechHub has finished moving servers from the #US to #Quebec in #Canada, ensuring our ability to remain a space for (mostly) #FreeSpeech and an alternative to billionaire run #SocialMedia, without as much worry about interference of far-right authoritarian governments.
Still working on some of the migration, including work-in-progress translations of some of this stuff to French, Spanish, and Portuguese, but that's on the way, and the server is now located in Canada.

Claims from the #History-#skeptic, #AntiVax, and White Supremacist movements that she is fictional are false: she was a real person who actually lived, with extensive news reports and official documents of her exploits, including meeting presidents Cleveland and Johnson, and we have a whole archive of videos about her. The movie about her is based on the historically accurate story of her childhood.

I think these spikes in #spam activity correspond to increased interest in #Mastodon and the #fediverse, because they correspond to new users showing up.
If y'all non-mods see new users saying hi, be sure to welcome them and give them #FediTips about things like following hashtags and posting an #introduction: users who have a friendly and helpful experience early on tend to stick around, and have a positive experience in general. We could use more people doing that, and you don't have to be staff to help grow the Fediverse!

There is no algorithm shuffling the content on this network, so we generate our feeds by following people and hashtags. I recommend you search up a few hashtags and follow them now to get started.
I also recommend you make a post talking about yourself, using the hashtag #introduction, and adding further hashtags for the things you intend to post about. That way, you can find some followers right away.

Just wanted all the other #Moderation teams watching #FediBlock / #InstanceBlock to know we're experiencing some sort of minor #spam / #troll #raid, which seems to be affecting a few servers. It's only like a couple posts an hour, I'm keeping an eye on the sign ups, and we're going to be bringing on a new moderator we've been onboarding.
These aren't automated, so even if you have protections against automated signups, y'all may want to check your local timeline. Look for wojack / soyjack memes.

Like remember this next time someone tries to tell you that capitalism is good and makes us all prosperous and builds all this infrastructure, capitalism destroys a lot of infrastructure too. Allowing large Capital movers to just make broad sweeping decisions like that that affect everyone else in the market so deeply and thoroughly, that basically torch billions of dollars worth of investment, is a chaotic environment, not conducive to long-term development or stability.
