In Australia our government is obediently rolling onto their backs and presenting their bellies to Trump.

Supposedly the biggest threats to Australia today are antisemitism and Chinese apps... never mind 10,000 people are going homeless every month and people with full time work can't afford to eat and pay their bills because prices are so jacked.

Best to write some hate crime laws and occupy all the airwaves congratulating ourselves!

p.s. Has the police actually confirmed if these antisemitic attacks are real in Australia, or are they politically arranged mob orders? This isn't my theory, there were reports some of the attacks in Sydney were not organised by anyone against Jews at all but paid for via organised crime. Curious!

Concerned about the news coming out of America? So am I!

So concerned in fact that I will be dropping American technology companies from my tech stack ASAP. Why? Well, read the news! But if you're still unsure, check out my blog post where I can explain.

Everyone is being way too hard on Trump about the price of eggs. Don't you know eggs are actually really difficult to produce? Hardly any nation on Earth uses eggs due to how scarce they are! It's not like some fat bird just farts a pile of them out every day for free!

Australians are being culled by their government. I don't know if this is a deliberate effort, but it seems to be a global phenomenon in western society.

Unpopular Opinion:

All games made with Unreal Engine 5 are the same game. That's fine if you're a big studio that needs reliability on your large investments in art work and marketing, but it's kinda boring if you want more innovative and fresh gaming experiences. So tired of jittery dead bodies.

This issue is especially jarring for Homeworld 3 where it feels like a tremendous amount of work went into purposing the engine for it's graphics - without the ability to fine tune gameplay and performance. AFAIK past Homeworld titles were custom engines built around the game and you could feel it.

I love Unreal as a brand - have been a fan of Unreal Tournament for over 21 years and I do enjoy a lot of AAA titles made with the engine. I just think developers need to approach the choice of engine carefully because a fast start on a project doesn't mean the original vision will be achieved.

Feeling a bit unwell from the heat today and took a few hours off. Reflecting on how not a lot of people, including myself, have that option when needed.

When I was a full time employee, one of the worst parts of getting sick wasn’t the illness itself—it was being forced to go to a doctor or chemist to get a note justifying my absence. I’d spend what little money I had when I should have been in bed recovering, and every part of it screamed one thing: They don’t care about me or trust me. It felt dehumanizing.

For me, this goes deeper than just being sick. I’m a gay man living with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I shouldn’t have to tell everyone I meet that I was sexually abused as a minor—multiple times—but experiences like that affect how you see the world. They affect how you experience work environments where trust, empathy, and basic kindness are absent.

Employers demanded I show up to work but not with my health struggles, mental or physical. They wanted me there, but only on impossible terms—terms that ignored my reality.

Now that I’m self-employed, I have the freedom to prioritize my health without jumping through hoops. But the truth is, those past experiences still affect my long-term health. And it’s frustrating to know that so many people are still stuck in systems like this, where empathy takes a backseat to control. Even government jobs will demand sick notes of their employees, regardless of the impact of obtaining one will have on their health.

We can—and must—do better. Trust your employees, and co-workers. Let them take the time they need to recover without judgement. Stop treating sick leave as a privilege to be earned and start seeing it for what it is: a basic human right that goes beyond the concerns of work.

CEOs might get all the heat, but the real power in corporations lies with the boards and investment groups. They decide who gets hired into executive roles, what their goals are, and how they’ll be rewarded for meeting them.

Executives are the upper middle class trying to secure their retirement—more like politicians than powerbrokers. They’re definitely part of the problem, but not the root cause.

The boards are where you’ll find the real nepo babies and Sith Lords. Rich, well-connected parasites whose only contribution to the world seems to be misanthropy and misplaced entitlement.

It’s no wonder people are furious. Violence is always wrong, killing even more so, but when the system leaves people desperate and offers no other options, it’s not surprising that some feel like they have no choice. If we want real change, it’s time for leaders to start listening before more good people begin to turn to crime to solve their problems.

Been feeling the weight of the cost of living for the past few years, especially after struggling to find work and a place to rent during the pandemic. It’s hard not to feel like, no matter what we do as individuals, it doesn't matter. We pay most of the taxes, do most of the work, yet we get the least benefit. Now, it feels like we're not even allowed to live with dignity and respect. Something has to change.

In recent years, politics in Australia has focused more on ideological battles than meaningful policy. Conservative politics, especially, has lost sight of the economy, opting for cultural wars instead. It's time to refocus on policies that actually benefit Australians.

Immigrants are being scapegoated in the media again, and I think it's time to share a different perspective. As someone born and raised in Australia with immigrant parents, I find it frustrating hearing the same tired scapegoating narrative being wheeled out.

Let’s not pretend immigrants are some external force causing issues like rising house prices. We invited them here. Business lobbyists pushed for cheap visa workers, and the government delivered. These are people who are easily exploited because they’re too afraid to speak up about unreasonable demands. It’s not just the big companies - plenty of small and medium-sized businesses have gotten in on sponsoring worker visas too, particularly in industries like hospitality, agriculture, mining, and IT.

Then there's the gig economy, which has become another layer of exploitation. Jobs that pay less than minimum wage and offer no rights are filled by people who are either unqualified or desperate enough to take them. It’s a perfect system for the wealthy: keep people struggling just enough to accept worse pay and worse conditions.

Yes, immigrants have played a role in the housing market surge, but let’s not forget: these are decisions we made. We brought them here to fill labor gaps and boost the economy, and now we’re blaming them for the mess we created.

While these narratives may be a convenient, easy football for the media to amass support and viewers, they cause real harm - especially to immigrant children who have to go to school while society blames them for problems they didn’t create. This scapegoating doesn’t just affect the adults; it ripples out to the next generation, leaving them to carry the weight of unjust blame.

We need to stop pointing fingers at cliché scapegoats like immigrants and start calling out the real problem: the systems we built to exploit them - and everyone else.

What's worse - a government lying about how much it's helping the working class or a government so out of touch they don't realise they aren't helping? Is it acceptable that people in power are so callously blind to their own life of privilege?

It really is disheartening to see how leaders like John Howard, Tony Blair, and George W. Bush faced little to no consequences for their actions, particularly with the middle east. The decision to invade Iraq was based on claims about weapons of mass destruction that were later proven false, yet there has been no real accountability for the devastation caused. The war led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, destabilized entire regions, and left a lasting legacy of suffering, both for the people of Iraq and for the soldiers and civilians involved.

The fact that these leaders are able to live in retirement, give speeches, and even be regarded as elder statesmen by some, without facing any legal or official reprimand, highlights the deep flaws in international justice. It's a bitter reminder that those in power often escape the consequences of their actions.

We see echoes of these same issues today, where leaders continue to lie to the public, manipulate narratives, and avoid accountability for actions that harm countless lives. It’s a recurring cycle, and it can feel like the people who suffer most are left without any justice or voice in the aftermath.

I've just posted an article about some recent work I did to migrate shader materials from Blender to three.js. You can read it here,

Very keen to also hear constructive feedback on the article. I tried to balance useful info without waffling on about stuff you can easily Google.

Hope it's of use to somebody out there!
