Malaysia invented this form of look dancing on poles. Who knew?

Also, there are non-Chinese performers

Chinese New Year at Pavillion mall, #KualaLumpur. Our malls, especially the big ones, do try to out do each other with the deco. This weekend I hope to visit Sunway Pyramid to see what they did :)

"In the storm, the lightning arrester of Umno building along the road crashed to the road below, burying Lim’s car underneath and damaging seven other vehicles.

Efforts to recover his body were called off after four days of digging due to concerns that further digging could affect the surrounding buildings so Lim’s body was never recovered.

Only parts of his Honda City were recovered from the crater."

My dad told me this story over dinner, like he was telling me about the weather 😬☠️

"Also eye-opening is exposure to Chinese rules for posting content, which are largely rules of common decency and respectful communication, so lacking in the disgusting US "free speech" marketplace whose net outcome is that the biggest dickheads silence normal decent voices"

Exactly my thoughts about moderation on #Xiaohongshu

US folks mistakenly think #Xiaohongshu a Tiktok clone (that's literally Douyin). Calling it an Instagram/Pinterest hybrid is also not 100% right either. Remember how we search for useful information on Google by appending Reddit to our searches? XHS is actually that, but prettier and much, much nicer than Reddit. This is not because Chinese people are generally nicer (have you been to Weibo, dear god). It's because it has strict moderation, kinda like Mastodon style where the xhs community actively participates by reporting content. Also, it's algorithm is the fastest and most intiuitive i've seen.

Another thing I found out from #xiaohongshu is that Chinese people really HATE term Lunar New Year, so please don't say that to them. It's actually "Spring Festival" (chun jie) or "Guo Nian" (passing of a year). In Malaysia we simply call it Chinese New Year. In Hokkien, we call it "xin jia".

I don't know if we're sensitive about the Lunar bit in Malaysia though.

Had to cancel my credit card because someone hacked it and used it to pay for #Facebook ads.

Another reason for me to hate #Meta, I guess lol

I think the most mind blowing thing I learned from 小纒书 is that Malaysia is way more festive about Chinese New Year than China πŸ˜…

The developers at #xiaohongshu are probably working their asses off omg. Not only did they create translation capabilities in 3 days, they just added auto bilingual subtitles right after Capcut was discontinued in the US two days ago. I work in a software co and lemme assure you that kind of speed is INSANE πŸ˜†

I know it will be a struggle for some of my US friends today, but lemme reassure you that we Malaysians get it. We had a coup during the pandemic and parliament was frozen. They were very dark times for us.

But we got through to the other end. You can too. The most important thing is u need to unite, left and right, to beat this. If you continue to be divided, the powerful will always have the upper hand. Learn it from us.

Military Prosecutor DobermanΒ review

As shallow as it sounds, I was initially drawn to the drama because of the lead actor. Man, he is FINE. Lest you think I'm that shallow, I was also a sucker for a redemption arc, and this drama turned out to be quite a redemption journey. The story Initially, I got the impression that this was a very serious show about soldierly stuff, that the lead character hunts deserters.

I am going to ask a possibly stupid question.

Why do Americans film themselves talking while lying in bed? They're bringing this over to #xiaohongshu and it's driving me crazy 🀣

Ps: I haven't noticed people from other countries do this so far lol
