Hello, Fediverse,
I have forgotten how and whether or not I can follow any Bluesky account. Say @linguistlist.bsky.social for example. I am following @bsky.brid.gy already, but still won't get any search results for Linguistlist.

Article sent to one journal, book review sent to another.
Checklist checked, stuff packed. Phew. Now a Majornas #Julapilsner and then perhaps an #ElfsborgsLösen . Sun outside, candles inside. Bring on the holidays!

Happy to attend Felix Morger's Ph.D. defense (viva) on his work “In the minds of stochastic parrots: Benchmarking, evaluating and interpreting large language models”, analysing what LLMs actually do and are able to (not) do.

Excellent beginning of the week: Scholarship granted for a pilot project with @ljo and @klasronnback to create a new, annotated corpus of (a certain kind of) old American English! In a future proper project, we'll be collaborating also with Morgan State University in this. Very happy to have got my first postdoc project going!

Local brewpub celebrates five years of existence! I have to drive in a short while, so I'm starting with a rhubarb & raspberry soda.
Happy birthday, #MajornasBryggeri !

Couldn't decide today, so made a taster tray of Beersmith's Honey red ale (lots of honey!), Majornas Julapilsner (slightly more complex pilsner) and Elfsborgs lösen (excellent dry porter).

Dear Fediverse, I just had to buy (for a relative) a OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite phone that cannot (yet) use any /e/OS. Are there any other privacy-focused OSes that work for this specific phone? Or other tips on what to turn off or on in the settings?
Boosts appreciated.

Still, the power of the icon is strong, and in the small town of Varberg, this statue is now hosted in a hotel garden, open to the public, and some (two?) hundred metres to the northwest, in a private garden, another statue by Susanna Arwin called The Old Lady Army (currently with scarves).
Sad story, but fascinating art work.

Fascinating stories I heard today from someone involved:
The lady bashing nazis with a handbag got international fame at the end of the last millennium. In 2014, a statue of her was made, but the family kindly asked not to have it in their hometown — the lady often went around hitting people due to personal trauma. Also, the artist had not asked permission from the original photographer, so she had to change the looks a bit.

My night train to Umeå university (station on campus!) is a tad bit late (40 min.), but since we're in the North (of Sweden), some people missing their connection have to wait until this afternoon for the next. Then they get a "day room" at a local hotel, and lunch there!
That's the way to go, SJ!
(No worries for me, either.)

Well, at least a friend of mine got a grant from the Swedish Research Council today. My colleagues and I didn't, so I'm still available for any corpus linguistic postdoc positions!

On a train, writing my keynote presentation for a (bachelor/master) Slavic student conference next week. Topic: Academic publishing. Sections: open science, choice of writing language, what ranking is, examples of journals.
What else do you think foreign language students could need to hear?
