With the chance to try Copilot with Outlook, I went ahead and switched from Classic Outlook to New Outlook on my desktop and from the Mail app to the Outlook app on my iPhone. I haven't tried Copilot yet, but the Outlook app and New Outlook seem a lot more accessible than they were the last time I tried them. #Outlook #Copilot #accessibility

Yesterday I heard a Republican politician state that wildfire aid to California should be contingent upon California getting their act together. My biggest trigger used to be when Republicans would say we just need to live with school shootings, and that's just the price of freedom. I think that has been topped now by Republicans who want to score political points while people are dying and losing their houses. This is just disgusting and craven. I don't recall Democratic leaders saying this about Florida after the last two hurricanes. I agree tough questions need to be asked, but while people are losing they're lives, we need to put partisanship aside and save the finger pointing for later.

I haven't given up my Meta account yet, but I have turned off all notifications from Facebook and deleted Facebook and Messenger from all of my devices. I don't need to be on a platform that allows hate speech or considers fact checking to be censorship. Also, saying that Texans are fairer than the rest of the country isn't true and is just obvious pandering to Trump and his followers. #Facebook #Meta

I got myself an abacus for Christmas, and now I'm trying to teach myself out how to use it. I'm not finding much on line. I mostly seem to be finding material for sighted teachers on how to teach blind children how to use it. Anyone know of good sources I could use to teach myself to use the abacus? #abacus #blind

I was a Republican for 40 years, and now I've been a Democrat for four years. I'm not rich or powerful. I'm not a crony or a relative of anyone who has ever been or will ever be president. Joe Biden is NOT the reason I've lost faith in the justice system. Pardoning Hunter Biden hasn't changed anything with respect to what Trump is going to do around pardons or weaponizing the justice system. IMHO, there's no comparison to what Biden has done with what Trump has done or will do. I would choose my son over a promise I'd made every single time. Just as Trump's misdemeanors wouldn't have been turned into felonies if it wasn't Donald Trump charges wouldn't have been brought against Hunter Biden if his name wasn't Biden.

What's all of this concern about Mastodon losing people to blueSky? People will leave or they won't. For me, until BlueSky has apps that are accessible as Mastodon then I won't be thinking about going anywhere. If it does have an interface that's as efficient for me to use as what I have on Mastodon then I'll think about adding a BlueSky account. It'll depend on content and features at that point. IMHO, it's all about choice, and I'm for as many accessible options as possible. #Mastodon #BlueSky #accessibility

I got my telescoping fiber glass cane from Ambutech today. I like it ,but I still need to take it out for a test spin. It has a dome tip, which I'm also curious to try out. I like it better than the folding canes I have since it's more rigid. It's also lighter than the Urban Explorer from Awarewolf. https://ambutech.com/

One thing I've wondered about for a while, is how do I find the canonical hash tag I should be using in Mastodon? For example, one time I used BARD for the service provided by the NLS, but I was told that was taken by Google, so the right hash tag to use is NLSBARD. I've wanted to post something on the New York Knicks, but I can't figure out if I should use Knicks, NYKnicks or NewYorkKnicks for a hash tag. #Mastodon

So today at the office I was on a call where we were going over how to review this document. I was finding out that it's a PDF, and we can't download it and bring it up in the Adobe desktop application. It's in SharePoint and we can only view it in the web browser. I explained that I was blind and that PDF and web interfaces can be problematic for a blind user. She said she didn't want to offend me, and I told her that was OK. She ended up asking me "Are you physically blind?" I was speechless. I finally stumbled out something like "Well, yes." Not sure what she was thinking, but I still don't know what other kind of blindness I could have meant! 😖

Decided to start tackling the mess that's my contacts. I've got them spread across Google, iCloud and Outlook. I also found two lists of Outlook contacts, one just called contacts and the other called iPhone. Being the perfectionist that I am, I'm planning to brute force clean them up contact by contact. I estimate it'll take me most of the year.
