Here is what "Cutting government red tape" means.
First off, we need to understand that part of the role of government is to protect people from exploitation from businesses. We have a bunch of laws because people were dying in industrial accidents and were being poisoned by businesses.
The red tape that some politicians want to cut is those protections that keep people safe.
Sure, they find some rule that looks really bureaucratic and no one sees a need for as the example, but what they really want to do is pump their effluent into a river, pollute the air, feed you poison, etc.
Those "red tape" things that protect us from exploitation are not cheap and businesses don't want them.
Do you know why we have to cook chicken, eggs and hamburger well done? Well, that is because there is less red tape in the slaughterhouse than there needs to be.
Remember this when a politician wants to cut inspections. He values your life as lower than his donor's wealth.
[#]Trump is going to town on #RedTape right now and #PP will follow.

the ottawa subreddit is talking about migrating off of twitter. No one is mentioning mastodon as a solution. Are there any reddit users on here that might reach out to them and point out that ottawa.place exists?

@human3500@pxlfd.ca Also cool for my Ottawa friends - I created an Ottawa group on that server.
Well, I don't know if it is cool or not. Join me and make it cool. Or wreck it and make me delete it.

I moved my pixelfed account to the instance for Canadians. You can find me there as @human3500@pxlfd.ca. Here is an example (a repost from my earlier instance) https://pxlfd.ca/i/web/post/786275819666736557

I am listening to a radio show on CBC where they are talking about putting more crap in the atmosphere to fix the atmosphere.
You know this is what people will jump at rather than changing their behaviour.
It is so f'ng tiring, but then I realized if people won't spend five minutes to leave facebook and twitter, what hope does the planet have?
People just don't want to do the right thing if they have to change even the most minor of things.

I need a windows desktop for a few weeks a year. Target than buying one, it must be possible to rent one in the cloud but my 2 minutes of search didn't surface a simple desktop.
Any pointers @mWare @Auxonic ?

Way back, i thought about joining Instagram but then it seemed to take a turn to the snobby side and then it was bought by the devil.
15 years later, I'm thinking about #pixelfed. What's a good server to join? My shots would be mostly nature saving the shit posts for Mastodon.

Here is my attempt on the first steps to fixing the design of the #Ottawa LRT.
Since the Airport line 4 (in blue) starts at South keys for some reason, we start from there.
We can use the same tracks up to Mooney's bay. At this point, the LRT heads to the right to get to Billings. This entire area is going to be redeveloped, so it should be easy to ram a train in there.
From Billings, we go underground and go up bank and connect at an existing station. Now, there is a single train from downtown to the airport.
Billings is connected to Hurdman via the BRT. This is fine for now, but we can convert this to rail (shown in yellow). We run it all the way to Mooney's bay because at that point, it could take over the BRT they plan to run down baseline road.
So, the current much despised three train design for downtown to the airport can be positioned as just part of a work in progress.

As for year over year, I only have three years of data which I present below.
2024 comes in second place.
1 - 2022 with 441 visits
2 - 2024 429
3 - 2023 343
2024, I expect, was helped by a warm October and November. I am going only by memory, but I recall the Feb 2023 slump was very cold.
Maybe it is interesting that the average monthly count is usually about the same although the animals contributing to the count change. For example, rabbit is more of a winter animal. Now, I also maybe cheat a bit because I keep some plants a bit uncovered so that it can eat in the winter.

Okay, the #nocturnal #Ottawa #critter results for 2024 are final.
Rabbit, working hard all month, took the win with 168 visits edging out the late slumping and very fat raccoon at 165. Very close and the only critters with over 100 night time visits.
To add insult to injury, raccoon also lost a 15 minute fight with the green bin filled with turkey bones the other night.
Other notables:
A very consistent showing by skunk which is unusual as it seems to hate the cold and is more of a spring / summer critter.
Fox put on a late kick to get to double digits.
A record showing by coyote who I am assume will move from a very rare visitor to a rare visitor.
Three mystery animals. One was an otter and I don't expect them again, so perhaps this category should be more like unusual. The other two were flying but I could not pin them down into the right flying category (which are currently, bat, owl and nighthawk). I expect they were what I am calling nighthawks.
If I lump all the night flyers together, they would push fox out of fifth position.

As for Carney, he's not even a politician, nor has he been elected. I don't think we take randoms and put them in cabinet positions like other countries do.
So, we're a long way from needing to talk about him.
Edit. Apparently, we allow this kind of crap. Tradition says we don't do it but we know how long tradition will last under pp.

I listened to CBC's call in show at lunch. So many people have great gaps of knowledge about how the Federal parliament works.
An equal number of them are terrible at political strategy.
Let me lay some things out although I am likely missing some subtleties.
Trudeau can resign as PM and this does not cause a federal election. He is merely the leader of the party and, as the leader of the party with the most seats, he leads the government as PM. Whoever leads the liberals at the end of the week should be the PM although there likely needs to be a ceremony or two for that person to be recognized as such if Trudeau steps down.
I assume the deputy PM becomes the PM if Trudeau can't do it. Ironically, that person is Freeland, so this is a great power play. Edit: I'm wrong here in many ways.
Only one Canada wide party wants an election and the rest want more time before the next election. Thus, there will not be an election any significant amount of time before the deadline.

Remember how the LRT trillium line was going to service the airport? If I am not mistaken, the federal government tossed in extra money to make it happen because we all know this is because this is now the city government works.
However, all we could get was this stupid spur so that it would be three trains to get downtown instead of two.
This spur became line 4 and will be launching in a couple of weeks with an added stop at the EY event center (I suppose the EY event center hosts large events some days and a train would be useful).
I wonder if the brain trust at the OC checked to see if the airport is open on the weekend in January? I am thinking it is. I am also thinking that maybe residents might start and end their vacations on the weekend with a flight into and out of YOW because they work during the week.
It is almost like the entire point of line 4 was forgotten about in this phased rollout. Yet somehow, council seems okay with ignoring the airport and the EY center if it is the weekend.
It is so stupid, it is embarrassing.

It seems that visits have rebounded from last year and visits seem to peak in the spring.
