Whoops. Added 30g of MSG to my sourdough bread dough this morning instead of 30g salt.

Since MSG is a salt intensifier and has some saltiness of its own, I'm compensating with 20g of actual salt. That should get me most of the chemical benefits of the salt without overwhelming too much.

Fingers crossed!

Maybe the bread will be fine with the right cheese.

This seems like a really harmless joke, weird that it would get them booted off the hellsite.

Ice stalagmites can occur in caves where the ceiling is above zero and the floor is below. Water drips down and freezes. Sometimes they can connect.

Taken in Raufarhólshellir, a lava tube cave.

I guess the main thing now is to prepare for the battles to come. Conserve strength. Build up reserves. The future is going to have new challenges now, on top of the old ones.

This is going to suck.

Republicans seem to be under the impression that I want their emails. :P

The lack of basic due diligence on their part to filter out, eg, Canadians, seems on brand for them.

Mastodon 4.3 installed, hooray. It was a bit of a bear, requiring a new version of Ruby and some additional downloads, but it looks nice.

Third book in the Stardock trilogy is out. The first two were pretty good. If you like sort of techno-optimistic military SF, give it a try. It is my jam.

I am slightly enraged by this. Not just by the fact that the BC Liberals sold BC Rail for a song in 2004 to CN Rail, but the fact that their CEO and CFO are pulling down $250k in salary each, despite the remnants of the company only owning 40km of rail and no trains.

I started spelling "aluminium" instead of "aluminum" a while back mostly to be pretentious, but now I can't stop without effort. :(

I bought a USB-rechargeable mason jar vacuum sealer recently, and it's been pretty great. I can finally store nuts without having to keep them in the fridge, and store cat food without it going rancid. The cat gets genuinely excited with the fresher kibble. Top $20 purchase.

It's amazing what you can get for cheap that genuinely improves your day-to-day.

I've largely jar-ified my pantry on a couple of standard sizes at this point, so the vacuum sealer is awesome.
