Been exploring PeerTube and this caption caught my eye (Prof. Steve Keen: "What economists don't know about climate science can kill us"). I’ve come across a number of articles that economics, particularly Neoliberal Economics, is largely voodoo. This interview (quite long) is very interesting as it explains why are all at risk and all economic advice is to continue on regardless.

This struck a cord with me as since the Trump train wreck and Dutton’s shift to Trumpian politics, I have been less engaged with the news. It’s time for Albo and tribe to start with some serious policy that shows hope for the young.

It does seem like the fossil fuel lobby has captured our political class and conned them into a passing a massive infringement of our rights to protest. It is interesting as there are many people tell their companies that they don’t want to be assigned to work on fossil fuel projects.

“The modelling, done at no charge by Frontier Economics” It begs the question of who are Frontier Economics and why did they do this work for free? Are they partisan players or merely interested good samaritans? What’s the likelihood that their numbers are distorted or biased?

Peter Dutton emailed me today with a misleading take on power prices and why Labor is to blame and not the LNP. He was also spruiking his under sized nuclear power plan. His point about putting all our power eggs in the renewables basket might be ok if his reactors could be brought online in 10 years but world wide experience is against him.
The kicker was that he summed it all up with a donate to the LNP button.

“I regularly encounter gutting depictions of losing a child, and I am reminded that not knowing the emotional cost of widespread child mortality is a luxury.” It struck me that those who won’t vaccinate their kids or themselves or demand unpasteurised milk are ignorantly playing with fire.

An interesting take on a healthcare fund “UnitedHealth is US’s largest health insurer, providing benefits to tens of millions of Americans, who pay more for healthcare than people in any other country.“ Most of the other coverage is about how rapacious the company is.

The government had looked at coercive measures before and “the research shows, a decade before robodebt, that such an approach is unlikely to be effective”. The great thing about history is that fools insist on not learning from it.

I favour making power off peak or free during the day to encourage load shifting to the peak solar production times. A quick change and it reflects supply and demand better.

Always wondered if fossil fuel companies could be held accountable. Still don’t know but it’s a start. Maybe directors, shareholders and executives could be named and shamed.

I reread this again and thought it was important enough to post again. It is time that our political masters actually became our servants and did our bidding rather than pander to their fossil fuel owning billionaire mates.

We've known about the health effects of fossil fuel pollution for years and this Climate Council video articulates it well. One that is really worrying is using indoor gas cooking and heating.

Hidden in a story about not privatising the #NBN is this gem, “The government needs to invest in a LEO satellite constellation – the UK, Canada and other comparable countries to us have all done that already.”
That’s what the world needs is more LEOs congesting Earth orbit! Doesn’t anyone consider the space junk, the cost, the business case, the climate change implications, environmental pollution?

I just reread this IPCC report thought again that while we need tackle many issues to reduce greenhouse emissions, it is energy production where the biggest gains are. Getting off fossil fuels and electrifying everything should remain the primary focus.

Pretty amazing that everyone wants to launch a satellite based mobile phone service. Aside from the huge costs and the need to continually launch replacements they really don’t replace mobile phone towers in cities which means a more limited rural market. As tens of thousands of these spacecraft are in low orbit, it will take some fancy orbit dynamics to prevent collisions and space debris. As with anyone concerned about their families future, using launch vehicles for such dubious results is a clear and present danger to accelerating climate change.
