Bucket list checkoff achieved: I visited #Ponyhenge in Lincoln, Massachusetts. As of today there are 52 hobby horses and rocking horses in the field at 47 Old Sudbury Road. No one knows why.

I have been trying for a few years to befriend the corvids in my St. Paul neighborhood, with limited success. Now, staying in Groton MA in the house I used to live in here, I've gotten the local mrder interested in my offering of peanuts. (I couldn't find a way to make the iPhone ignore the screen and focus on the distance.)

@tb making sense of Zuck's move:

“It seems like people aren’t quite putting 2 and 2 together yet. Meta has announced that it will (1) end fact-checking on Facebook, (2) flood the zone with AI bots, and (3) ‘getting rid of content restrictions on certain topics, such as immigration and gender identity, and rolling back limits on how much politics-related content users see in their feeds.’ ... [A]ssume these... moves, and others, are coordinated and strategic: coordinated inauthentic behavior, as Facebook puts it.”

“Crises get a lot of attention, but the quiet work of fixing them gets less. And if that work ends the crisis that got all the attention, the success itself makes people think there was never a crisis to begin with.”

The Y2K panic of the 1990s reads as a punchline today, but for those of us who lived through it, it was serious enough. In retrospect it's easy to forget that we just did not know. The world dodged the bullet because companies and governments spent $100 billion remediating — the largest tech infrastructure project ever at that time. The sudden cessation of that spending contributed to the tech bust early in this century.

Hello #MNstodon — I just learned of this hashtag and wish it had been sooner.

Recently Heidi Li Feldman started an initiative to encourage Fedi people to meet up IRL, in order to start building supportive community for strength in the face of what is coming. I'm the only one from MN who signed up.

If you would be interested in meeting up, DM me please. I'm in St. Paul.
