Team is working on art upgrades for our 'MVB' map, first version vs second version!
Both are running on my potato machine, which is our 'minimum' aimed for requirements.

NOPE! The random freezes are doing it on my godot 4.3 build too after a bit of time. Gotta be the video driver upgrade. My poor NVIDIA 980 just can't handle driver v566.36 i guess.

GRA it seems to be Godot 4.4 beta =( reverting to the 4.3 build and it no longer freezes the system.
Wish I knew how to find a meaningful root cause and report it up, but as it stands, it just freezes with no logs written for a few seconds. COULD be using the built in Jolt Physics, could be one of my shaders, could be anything.
Guess I'll test again with beta 2.

Okay my computer did some upgrades lately and now occasionally my 3D #godotengine project will freeze the WHOLE system for seconds at a time. This sound like a driver issue? Maybe the graphics card? It didn't freeze the whole system prior.

Yays... #godotengine 4.4beta really ends up being great for Steel Insecticides performance! Or at least perceived performance, my potatoes computers fps is still the same, but it just runs better!

Sometimes you gotta just build fast with spare parts and see how it feels.
Trying a slay the spire sort of approach to mission selection first. Requires some minor reorganizing but functionally seems to be working.
Not sure if the rogue like menu necessarily fits yet, butonly 1 way to know.

I played around with a lot of different ways to handle the ramp... Ultimately I'm not THAT happy with it, but its at 'good enough' for the time being.
It's a static body that spawns along side the effects. The effects actually do damage and have a 'hitbox' while the ramp only interacts with the player.
There is probably configuration where a RigidBody or CharacterBody makes more sense, or just a plane perhaps. Love to hear thoughts on better ways to implement it.

The 'seismic deformer' is probably not going to be in the final game in this particular form... it REALLY complicates level design etc.
But then again who knows. I'm having alot of fun playing around with it as is.

Really happy with how the mortar launcher is progressing. Its the first weapon I feel really gels with our games camera swapping ability.
Really nice when all these systems come together.

I'm pretty amused by how 'hacky' the 'crate' room is behind the scenes. Definitely understanding why you don't show behind the curtain much.
I definitely had little idea of what I was doing, and the 2d/3d mix was probably fully unnecessary and only made things more difficult.
And since the 'background image' is a placeholder anyway, was definitely a lot of work for not much ultimately!

You get crates for finishing missions or finding them during a mission. Still tweaking the drop tables and the like (not much variety yet), but wanted to make sure opening them up was fun.
And well, shooting things is on theme.

Best part about making games (for fun or profit) is meeting amazingly creative people.
This guy did some of the portrait work in Somnipathy, as well as the jigsaw puzzle thing in stage 3.
He's doing some concept work for the bugs, and I don't how close we'll get or if we SHOULD get this close art style wise, but its definitely worth showing off!

Ugly as sin, but functionally the whole tank customization process now works! (Can't wait for our UI person to make this look nicer)
Whole thing is driven by a lot of #godot resources. The 'profile' resource driving most of this, as it contains all the references to what is equipped and slotted where.
Overall it was 'easier' than I expected but still alot of work left to polish it all up.

The 'brusier' concept became the 'queen', and was pretty straight forward to make. She uses a 'mortar' style launcher and tries to lead her shots to immobilize you. Right now if she gets close its a 1 hit kill, but upgrades you can find later will help there.
