listening to #local-first /22 and thinking to myself "mutation is still the cause of all your misery, my dudes"

these are the only times i'm genuinely sad that @endatabas didn't make it, tbh

every time i return to fractal, i'm increasingly fond of it as a #matrix client... but i would kill for a system tray icon so i could get rid of the window completely.

sadly, i don't think any native #gnome apps will ever do that, given that the systray itself isn't native. (right?)

just woke up from a dream where mr rogers invited all the canadian liberal pm hopefuls over to this house. after 4 hours of taking off their shoes, there was an eerie sense that they were going to settle it with a fight-club-style bareknuckle in his living room.

i need to stop listening to political commentary right before bed.

it'd be nice if the default masto client provided the option to "hide boosts" from someone's page prior to following them. i'm going to hide their boosts anyway, it'd be nice to know what they actually say without scrolling through 30 pages by hand.

lots of names i don't recognize! ... and not that easy to search for such a list. if you know of #gnome personalities (are are one) that i should follow, please poke me with a reply. ^_^

this was fun! as a consequence, i have a very random question. i want to take a "device id" (a long unique string) and hash it into a single emoji. unicode code points for emoji are not sequential, so is the least-horrible way to do this to create a giant lookup table for thousands of emoji?

i did not come up with a smarter way of doing this. not today, at least. (though i also didn't write the script to scrape unicode.org and create the lookup table yet, so... smarter solutions welcome.)

I’m a project manager and developer from Halifax. I grow teams and ensure that we build the right product. Lately, I also build, evolve, and maintain backend Rails codebases for companies and non-profits. I’ve been writing code for 30 years, but I will always sweep the floor.

i made kadai paneer. i got way too far into the process before realizing we were out of tomatoes so... pasta sauce as a tomato substitute. it was the only tomato in the house. it worked surprisingly ok once blasted with hand-ground spices.

sacrilege? or am i just pulling the dosa-pizza from k.d. but, like, for white people?

(note: we do not own a kadai, either.)

will bitwarden get kicked off of fosstodon? not the most exciting drama you'll see in the open source world this week, given the state of wordpress, but it'll be interesting to find out.

spooky. within minutes of looking up jobs at @bitwarden i see #bitwarden trending here in the masto. why?

https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/issues/11611

non-free licensing in their client sdk. so... not only am i now totally disinterested in a job there, i also have to find a new password manager. lord love a duck
