“Washington Post columnist Karen Attiah had another suggestion:

“I actually wish the media would stop using ‘DEI’ and ‘diversity hiring’ and just get to the essence of the thing and ask: ‘Are you saying that this crash was caused by desegregating the races?’ And see what happens.”

A lie by TFG. Overwhelming evidence exists in the historical record that repeatedly, the Congress and courts have pointed out what the Constitution says, which is that Congress appropriates money to implement policy, and the executive branch is responsible for executing the policy that Congress has established. We don’t have a king with independent control over the purse. This was indeed the “original intent” of the framers that the Heritage Society goes on and on about. https://www.threads.net/@propublica/post/DFYdD8GSDq6

When I was a kid, I was told that in the Soviet Union, people were required to rat out others else face consequences, and that that was bad. So when did that change? Solidarity, out. All hail the Great Leader and the Motherland, in? 2/2

“The Trump administration on Wednesday threatened federal employees with ‘adverse consequences’ if they fail to report on colleagues who defy orders to purge diversity, equity and inclusion efforts from their agencies. Tens of thousands of workers were put on notice that officials will not tolerate efforts to ‘disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language.’”

Evidently, it’s now American to rat out your fellow workers. 1/2

“In the United States today, a political minority has used the mechanics of government to take power and is now using that power to impose its will on the majority. The pattern is exactly that of the elite southern enslavers who in the 1850s first took over the Democratic Party and then, through it, captured the Senate, the Supreme Court, and the White House and tried to take over the country.”

“Democratic policies focused on people as consumers instead of as workers, counting on those people whose jobs were eliminated to find their way to jobs newly created — an assumption that was often flawed, given that the new service jobs frequently required out-of-reach skills or were located on the coasts, not in the upper Midwest.”

“In an historical moment when many are inclined to despair, to believe that the problems and divisions of our society are too intractable, too complex for hope, Faulkner speaks to us of “the old universal truths lacking which any story is ephemeral and doomed—love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice.” … “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” Why care about the public domain? That is why.”

“Food deserts are not an inevitable consequence of poverty or low population density, & they didn’t materialize around the country for no reason. Something happened. That something was a specific federal policy change in the 1980s. It was supposed to reward the biggest retail chains for their efficiency. Instead, it devastated poor & rural communities by pushing out grocery stores & inflating the cost of food. Food deserts will not go away until that mistake is reversed.”

“Trump did not win 50% of the vote, and CNN statistician Harry Enten notes that his margin comes in at 44th out of the 51 elections that have been held since 1824.

“More Americans voted for someone other than Trump than voted for him.”

That’s no landslide. That’s a plurality. So mandate it ain’t. It’s a win, sure.

A tender look at loss:

“[I]n Spanish, the accidental reflexive is a subtle way for speakers to forgive themselves for losing or breaking or forgetting everyday objects: I didn’t lose the car keys; they lost me! In English, I would have had to say ‘I lost my ring,’ a woeful admission. But in Spanish I could say ‘Se me perdió el anillo’—‘The ring lost itself to me’—and blame the ring instead.”

"If Donald Trump wants Kamala Harris and others to stop saying that he is a threat to democracy, then he should stop threatening democracy. Perhaps he shouldn't be trying to overturn elections, overthrow the government, and inciting insurrectionists if he doesn't want people to be honest about what he is, who he is, and what he's doing."

~ Don Lemon, interviewed on CNN
