I should have checked this in store because Apple but of course their 3.5mm cable¹ is not properly compatible with Android phones.²

¹ I know it's a DAC.

² Which is arguably lack of USB device volume controls on Android because ???, and I can't really blame Apple for not setting theirs to max by default because that's bad too.
