I rather love Christmas lights. As the season draws to a close and I set about putting things back into boxes, here's a behind-the-scenes peek into how my outdoor rig goes together.

I've definitely reached the post-Christmas fugue stage.

Although I had a massive meal of bubble and squeak, cold meats and pickles for lunch (best meal of the year, fwiw), and a sequence of beers all afternoon, already I'm peckish again.

Time to dig into the cheese selection, I feel.

And get another beer.

For the umpteenth time, I find myself protesting to the kids that "robux/minecoin is a total waste of your REAL money".

Sure, that £50 gets you a cool skin or XP or accessory or whatever, but it's fundamentally a poor use of money.

This is my hill and I am prepared to die on it.

I think this officially makes me "old".

Displaying data in @homeassistant is sometimes a little fiddly. I find the #Markdown card is often the best way.

Our council has an API that offers a JSON document with the next few weeks of upcoming bin collections. It's not in a format that's sensibly displayed in HA, so I wrote a little ASP.NET Core REST API app (running in Docker) to pre-parse the data.

The real trick is to code my API to return markdown-formatted data!

It might be a bit over to the top, but it works.

Autumn, for me, is set to the soundtrack of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

Late to the WotW party I first heard it at a fireworks display in probably 1997, and it blew my mind. Bought the double CD the next day and it didn't leave my CD player for months.

To this day the onset of "dark by 4.30", the turning of the leaves and upcoming bonfire night means it's time to dive back in.

No one would have believed...
