I'm sorry, but it's the law that the only correct miniatures and paint schemes are the old 4th/5th edition ones.

Classic Skarsnik is clearly better. As is the Doom Diver. And the Squig Hoppers. And the trolls. And the box art. And Grom!

The occasional 5th/6th edition item gets an honourable mention (like the chariot and the acceptable alternative Doom Diver)

Today in "streaming is shit", we've just moved on from "CSI on DVD" to "CSI on Netflix" and watched three episodes of dragon 10.

We go to watch it today and it says "leaving soon".

Apparently it's going to Paramount Plus at the end of February 🙄

So, looks like we're watching as much as we can on Netflix, then probably cancelling Netflix (because we've not watched a lot recently) and finding alternate sources to watch it.

Some of my colleagues were getting very excitable about The Traitor and were adamant that I should watch it.

I didn't have the heart to tell them that it gives me the same kind of vibes as Big Brother and The Apprentice. That "I'm watching members of the public put on personas and try to be A Character so that they can be A Winner" kind of show. And it holds absolutely zero appeal.

And then there's the fake drama that they wrap it all up in. I hate "try hard" shows.

I'm often a completionist in games. I like making sure that I've done it all and got the achievements. But there's no way in hell that I'm doing it on The Witness!

I just saw an obvious environmental puzzle in the quary. Couldn't work out why it wasn't triggering (or thought I knew but didn't know how to then get the angles right). Looked at IGN's guide (which I've been using for area order and very occasional "WTF? This makes NO sense!" solutions or "I must be missing something because I can see a thing but I can't get to it") and apparently it's one of about twelve in the area. Some of them quite subtle. And… yeah, nah. Not spending THAT long trying to find all of those things!

Good news, everybody! In the last few hours, there has been a new release of the #BitWarden client on GitHub.

Now, I don't normally care about releases. But this one will finally release a fix for the broken new "tiny fill button" design!

So keep an eye on your extension updates. You should soon have a "click to autofill" setting option that makes it like the old (useful) behaviour and not the redesigned (unhelpful) behaviour!

(I still don't understand how this got past the slightest bit of UX testing or test groups!)

Me: Oooo, that game looks interesting based on the initial graphics.

The description: … a soulslike deck builder…

Me: Okay. So. Not interesting. Not interesting in the slightest. I don't care how cool the graphics and plot is, that just destroys ALL playability and interest.

BBC News: Melania Trump launches her own cryptocurrency

I'm not saying that the entire Trump administration are a bunch of grifting kleptocrats who are just out to enrich themselves, but… 🙄

"Trump will want a good deal with UK, says minister"

Yes, but Trump has a VERY different idea of what "good deal" means compared to what the UK needs 🧐 He's a zero-sum game negotiator. He believes he has to "win", and that's at the expense of others.

And all this because the Tories fucked the nation over through Brexit and then by not negotiating a trade deal with the US by now.

Okay, one of those issues is a bug (now reported), one might have been me misinterpreting expected behaviour (the crop moves on a "confirm" action), and the ugly buttons etc are mostly (but not entirely) to do with my recoloured-Adwaita theme that's 90% "change the colour variable".

Aaaand I've just found that the problem is the default Gimp theme. The startup prompts you to pick light, "mid"-grey (dark grey) or dark. It didn't obviously give a "system" option.

Using the system theme stops the vast majority of "widget looks broken and out of place"-ness.

I'm shocked.

Games Workshop have announced some "classic" models have come back as made-to-order and… I think they might ACTUALLY be old classics!

They look like they're late 80s/early 90s 1st and 2nd Edition Bloodbowl models, rather than some 2010s piece that they discontinued and called "classic" 😮

Initial impressions are… patchy 😬 May need to poke some bits and check for bug reports.

Even simple stuff like "typing in the crop size doesn't always type", and "typing in the crop size sometimes types but doesn't move the crop box until you press the +/- button", and "wow, the buttons are ugly as hell in multiple places".

Me: Starts looking at other zoom levels to get some slightly better (but scaled) replacement tiles

Games Workshop: Yeah, we just screwed that whole area. Sometimes with overlapping tiles at a different zoom, sometimes not!

Looks like only full zoom-out is good on the Old World map. Otherwise you've got what are presumably old tiles from the smaller map still being served! Someone in the web team didn't do a good job of rolling out the new assets 😬

X and Y for bad map cells are:

You can confirm by grabbing them directly. e.g.:

Adjacent good tile: https://theoldworld.com/map/10/500/693.webp

Games Workshop has a scrollable Warhammer Old World map on their theoldworld.com website.

If you want it as one huge image then all you need is wget and ImageMagick 7 (and a quick bit of watching network traffic to work out the ordering of the images!)

for i in {488..523}; do for j in {676..719}; do wget -O map_${i}_${j}.webp; done; done

magick montage map_{488..523}_{719..676}.webp -tile 36x44 -geometry +0+0 map.jpg

And you get a 9216×11264 pixel map! And you find that there's rogue Empire tiles in a lighter colour scheme between Lahmia, the Broken Teeth, the Marshes of Madness and the Mortis Delta 😁

Just reading the #Mozilla newsletter summarising their recent "what are your dreams for Mozilla?" survey.

They're valiantly trying to play down the fact that people didn't rate AI all that highly and that all of the areas of focus are "something that's not AI" 😬

I understand the desire to have an "enjoy the puzzle of finding the puzzles" thing. But Taiji did something like that and still felt like it was a bit clearer on when you'd finished an area!

Having finished Talos Principle, I'm now trying to go back to The Witness and see how many puzzles I can do.

I think my biggest issue with The Witness is that it's just so opaque as to what you've done and what's left to do! I came back off the wreck after saving there a month ago. I went into the keep. I hadn't done the first maze that I came across. I finally solved it and… I think I must have already solved everything else? But I don't have a clue where I've been and what I've done!

80% of the League One, League Two and National League matches today: Nope, sorry, frozen pitch. We can't play in these conditions.

Scottish Premiership and Championship, and over half of the Scottish League One and League Two matches: Damn right, we're playing!
