Sister: needs place to store stuff.
Me: I have space, you can use it.
Sister: I'll bring the cat over next week.
This ... That ... I. ...
Cats are not stuff.
I don't want a cat.

I wasn't interested in the voice assistant for #HomeAssistant until I found there is already an #openWakeWord for "hey dick head"
Time to spend some money on speakers and microphones.

Hello #MastoAdmins and #MastoDevs
Let's say my database was thoroughly hosed.
If I was to export my profile, nuke my current instance and stand it back up on the same domain and import my profile again, would that work?
Or is the instance backing domain changing likely to cause weird side-effects talking to the other servers?

ahh, systemd, you're a bastard.
I have a perfectly functional DNS resolution setup in my house.
You really don't need to do anything to the DNS that DHCP gives you, aside from use it.
I don't need a bunch of "Backup" DNS resovlers, and I sure as peepee-poopoo don't need a DNS resolver on my local machine.

The #Arch experiment is about to come to a close.
I've learned some things I'll take back to #debian but coming back to a machine that seems to have hard-locked instead of falling asleep isn't ideal - and I currently have two of them doing it, when neither of them did on debian.
The final sin: hyprlock crashing, and not letting me back into my desktop without a reboot.
Fucked up a good gaming session!
Sorry Arch, BTW.

Went to a conference for work last week.
The closing talk was by a (business guy) that does (IT Policy Consulting for Big Companies)
He almost made AI seem like a thing we should all embrace and leverage.
One of the questions: "You said AI can improve the output of the skilled workers and we can avoid spending on junior staff, how are we going to get skilled workers if we don't put on juniors?"
He proceeded to speak a lot, but there wasn't an answer to be found in those words.

One of the benefits of being a little bit ADHD: my budget.
It was just one of those pay cycles where ALL of the bills rolled around on the one cycle. It happens every 18 months or so.
I know when it's coming, the "bills" account starts making me think I might be rich.
We're not thinking that anymore, but the bills are paid! dance

[#]WorkStories No. 887262
Got given a playlist of muzak to play at work because it's supposed to be relaxing.
First song: steady stream of people showing up to the office "what on earth are you playing?"
"it's supposed to be relaxing"
"it's not working"

I finally get the "I use #arch, btw" meme.
After installing Arch with various methods about 9 times over three days, I now have two laptops and a desktop running arch.
Bloody Hell. What a battle. No wonder everyone talks about using arch. They're trying to say they have more patience than most.
(I just wanted to try Hyprland)
Lucas' 30 second review of Arch: It's a linux, it does linux things. Some of the things are slightly different to other linuxes.

Having a fly land on your face right next to your PPE is the worst trick the devil ever pulled.
One moment, you're chilling, and there's something mildly annoying happening, so you absently swing a back-hand at it.
The VERY NEXT moment there's a god-awfully loud BANG as your knuckle connects with the ear muffs, and your hand hurts and something has happened to your ear and you're confused and ducking and weaving and and at the end of it all, there's still a fly on your face.

I've been looking for an album on an off for a few years.
I just knew it as "the crystal skulls album" and it was hard to find the right one.
I thought I was having a bit of a browstain bears situation as I was seeing it as "the mystery of" and "the secret of"
It turns out, it is both "the Secret of the thirteen crystal skulls", AND "the mystery of..." - both have the same track list, and the same track runtimes, and were released 3 months apart.
They just wanted to confuse me.

I kinda wondered how TEMU made it into the public consciousness so quickly.
Then I was on a fresh install of windows browsing some random tech forum looking for something windows-related.
Suddenly, there were a half-dozen ladies in underwear in one of the posts.
Yeah, I was on the internet without an adblocker running, it was a TEMU ad.
Apparently all of the advertising revenue anyone makes at the moment comes from TEMU, and that's how they entered the hive mind so quickly.
