So I got cruise control installed on my Harley.

I've never used a vehicle with cruise contol before. It's WEIRD. I turn it on, release the throttle, and it just keeps going - maintaining perfect speed. Feels unnerving after using throttle locks.

It's also very clear that this isn't safe to use in traffic. It'd be way too easy to rear-end somebody by accident.

I'll save it for the quiet highways. 🛣️

Time to start planning my next motorcycle trip - on the Harley.

Never been out back before, so I'm thinking of heading to Longreach, QLD, Australia. Bring the swag and sleep under the stars. It'll have to wait a few months though, until it's cooler and drier.

The Harley gets 200-250 km/tank (125-155 mi), which isn't going to be enough between stops. What's the best way to carry extra fuel on a Harley? Stash a couple of small jerries in the saddlebags?

The Street Bob's first service is complete!

It cost $449 AUD ($228 USD/€270) from the Harley-Davidson dealership. Basically double what it costs to service my Hondas at their dealership. You definitely pay a premium for Harley, but I've been really happy with the local staff and service.

Next, I think I'll replace the grips. The stock ones are smooth rubber, and slip too easily in your gloves. 🏍️

I got a new seat for the Harley - a Sundowner!

The difference to the stock seat is night and day. Before, my tailbone would be wrecked after a 1 hour ride on ANY road. Now I can belt out a 2+ hour ride on shit country roads in near-perfect comfort. This seat feels almost like a sofa.

Next thing I need to do is tilt the bars a bit more toward me. This seat changed the ergonomics a bit, and now my hands get numb on longer rides.

This Giant Daddy Long Legs spider (Artema atlanta) crawled up on me at a pub in Rockhampton, QLD, Australia.

I've never seen one before - it's fae bigger than the regular household Daddy Long Legs spiders.

She was very relaxed, and happy to just chill out on my hand.

My partner and I are planning a short road trip, but we have totally different tastes in accommodation.

I like the cheapest accommodation possible because it's guaranteed to be an adventure. $20-50 AUD/night has bought me a lot of fond memories.

Meanwhile, she won't accept anything that doesn't /at least/ have a private shower and clean sheets. 🧐

I've got 300 km on the H-D Street Bob so far. Besides the seat, I'm really impressed.

It's surprisingly easy to ride - easier than any other bike I've ridden. I guess it's the heavy weight and low centre of gravity improving stability?

The knees-out riding position is perfect for the Australian summer, and helps wick the sweat away from your legs. It's far more comfortable than gripping the tank for hours on end.

Can't wait to take this on a road trip soon. 😁

Due to heavy rain, this is the first day I've been able to ride the Harley-Davidson Street Bob since buying it early last week.

Initial impressions are pretty great.

However, I'm pretty sure the rider seat is some kind of mediaeval torture device, and the pillion seat is specially engineered to break up relationships. 😬

I'll see if I can get a better seat before my Christmas road trip.

Welp, I've already dropped the Harley... on my car. 😅

They're both fine. My Harley has a faint graze on its mirror. My car now has a dent and scratch on the door. It's a beater, so I'm not worried. The crash bars did their job, and saved both from worse damage.

So what happened? I made the mistake of trying to push the Harley forward without sitting on it. This works with the CRF300 because it's tall and rests safely on my hip - but the Harley is too low for that. 🫠

It's a Harley-Davidson Street Bob 114. 😁

I got optional saddlebags and crash bars installed. This will be my new road/travel bike, and I'll keep the Honda CRF300 Rally for gravel.

Finally saw Longlegs! It was really good.

Maika Monroe is fantastic as the protagonist. I haven't seen her since It Follows in 2014 (also an awesome movie), but it turns out she's been in /a lot/ of highly rated thriller and horror films since then. Now I need to check them all out!

Nicholas Cage hit it out of the park as the titular villain. I couldn't imagine anyone else doing a better job. Can't wait to see him in The Surfer (2024).

We're coming up on two months since I put a deposit down on my next motorcycle. As of last week, it was still "on the water" (being shipped to Australia).

Hope it arrives soon. I'm getting FOMO from watching Royal Enfield release all these cool new bikes!
