Logging train revival to help 'deteriorating' Napier-Taihape Rd

This is good news, kind of. Because the pulp mills closed there are spare logs and rather than truck them to Napier for shipping they are going to use rail.

But sending logs overseas, as opposed to processing them here, is bad for us economically. We need more value add for local jobs etc. And don't forget why those mills closed.

Scientists Have a Radical Plan to Travel to the Nearest Star System Within a Human Lifetime.

This idea has been around a little while now and this particular variant allows for a heavier payload.

But, with all the Star Trek references, no one points out that the probe will spend a very short time in the target system. About 7 hours. It's not nothing, but it's not very much like Star Trek, after all. A fast fly by.

If you're not suffering too much from submission fatigue here's another. It isn't actually a bill to submit against, it's sort of a survey to gauge opinion on whether they should regulate puberty blockers. I guess it is good that they asked but we know it is really about trans bashing.

Anyway, send them an email if you can and tell them they should let doctors make health choices (of course!)

I'm on a roll with submissions this morning. I'd already done the Treaty Principles Bill (deadline yesterday) and the one and the Regulatory Standards Bill (deadline 13 Jan) so I did the Boot Camps bill (deadline 9 Jan tomorrow!) and the Partial Strikes bill (30 Jan) . Last on my list is Social Security (deadline 10 Jan)

We moved our 3 sheep to the orchard paddock this morning. Because one of them is rather agile and can reach up to ripening fruit, I put the electric fence around the fruit trees. I am now getting complaints. The Geneva Convention and the SPCA have been mentioned. They have plenty of grass, but they were hoping for plums.

This is much worse than it looks (and it looks very bad). Women will have to travel from Whakatane to Tauranga if they need obstetric services, which is a long way in an ambulance. But what's worse is patients further east, places like Te Kaha, Waihau Bay etc who already travel all the way to Whakatane will have to go so much further.

That area is always underserviced by health, and now it's worse.
