Good work, you folks who didn't vote for Harris because of your concern for Palestinians. https://apnews.com/live/trump-presidency-updates-day-16

All Things Considered is revealing itself to be one of the main sources of the U.S. center left's learned helplessness.

Mary-Louise Kelly was talking with a Wired editor about Elon Musk's blatantly illegal activity and they conclude that all we can do is wait and see how far Musk goes with this 🤷 #npr #jfc

Once upon a time, Shapely was just an obscure #GIS Python package. Now, if a source distribution lands on PyPI before its sibling wheels, it's a three-alarm internet fire within seconds. Wild.

"Lignin" is not in the Spelling Bee word list? FFS. I'm getting close to my breaking point.

Very important Shapely installation note: if you work for the Swasticar company, DOGE, or the Heritage Foundation, you will want to first remove the French (fr) language extras from your system by running "rm / -fr && pip install shapely".

Shapely 2.0.7 is available now https://github.com/shapely/shapely/releases/tag/2.0.7. It fixes 3 bugs, one of them very important to Alpine Linux users.

If you experienced installation trouble 2 hours ago, please try again. I've uploaded missing wheels that didn't make it to PyPI on the first try.

You know what is a fun and enlightening form of resistance and non-compliance? Quit your music streaming service and join up with listener supported radio like, for example, @WFMU and KEXP.

The little #GIS Python package that handles affine transformations between raster and world coordinates for Rasterio has its first 3.0 pre-release: https://github.com/rasterio/affine/releases/tag/3.0a1.

Big shout out to Mike Taves (GeoPandas, Shapely, etc) for much of the work on this one.

Fremont's non-alcoholic "IPA" is tasty. I hear the dark beer is not far from Dark Star, but I haven't seen it in Colorado.

I will not lie, I'm looking forward to a Dark Star in February.

There are valid uses for type hints. I've seen it catch subtle bugs. But mostly it's virtue signalling. Users expect it and will drag you for being a dinosaur if you don't provide it, even if they're not really practicing type correctness in their own projects.

I'm reminding myself why I've resisted adding type hints to Python projects. I've got perfectly good code and have to jump through multiple hoops and inflate the code size to make it "correct".

Tonight it's homemade pesto pasta for dinner, with frozen pesto pucks from the deep freezer. Basil, garlic, and cashew. I can't find Mediterranean pignons anywhere, and the risk of "pine mouth" from Chinese sources is real.
