TSA issues new non-rules for REAL-ID:

Today the TSA published new regulations for the #REAL-ID Act, finalizing a bizarre and clearly illegal proposal the agency made in September 2024.

The new TSA regulations leave it even more unclear than before who the TSA will allow to #fly without #ID, and who it will prevent from flying without ID, after May 7, 2025.

Possibly of interest: Amtrak flash sale on winter/spiing USA Rail Pass. $299 for any 10 Amtrak segments within 30 days of boarding first train. Buy pass by 1/17, complete travel within 120 days of purchase. Much cheaper than a transcontinental round trip, but with lots of stops. Good news, although not final until bill is enacted: misguided and unworkable proposal to try to make registration for #military #draft "automatic" has been removed from conference draft of NDAA. See excerpt from conference report below.

Background on why this is such a bad idea (still relvant becuase this ptroposal will likely be renewed next yea, as long as self-registratioin with Selective Service System continues to fall):
