Me regular boat beat me. We were terrible on the Etchells for the first lap, second lap we got it together and passed three boats, but JalapeΓ±o won and owes beer for the second race in a row. Pity that one was the last race of the fall series and the next was the first race of the winter.
We still have use of the Etchells for one more race until Bob finishes shoulder rehab.
It's tough switching from sport boat mode to 1960s upwind monster.

[#]sailing Race day today. I got somebody to drive the J/80 so I can help out Bob by driving his Etchells (even if I'm DFL, it's better for his series score than a DNS.) His boat, Grin (nΓ©e Gringo) , is a much better boat than Tenacious Too was by the time it got to me, but it's been two years since I've even crewed on one.
We won the last race in the J/80 JalapeΓ±o, so we bring beer and snacks. I made JalapeΓ±o poppers. If I win this time, I'll just bring a Grin.

Got an offer to drive an Etchells for the next fortnightly intra-club race, as the usual driver is out with shoulder surgery, but I don't think I've got enough backup to cover the J/80, and I can't let that crew down.

Loading warm dry clothes to change into into my #sailing bag. Doing a high wind dinghy check off for a club member today.
Saw a small craft advisory earlier but not any more. Just 16 gusting 26.
Just don't hesitate on the gybes! Once you've decided, go full speed, flip that sail over by the falls, and be ready to turn back down.

Line honors on a day with the wind nice and reachy, 12-15, which was made for us.
Supposed to be 2 laps if the 1st boat finished in 1:15, we finished in :45, turned back upwind. after 10 minutes nobody followed, so we turned to go back, and then they started upwind. So we turned BACK around and won by a narrower margin, but still won.
Here's 2nd & 3rd place finishing while we recorded times.

Trump's picks are what you get when you spend 50 years telling people all politicians are corrupt.
So you really think there's no difference between Matt Gaetz and Pete Buttigieg?

Nice day at the dock, it blew 4-6 most of the day with the occasional short lull. Four people came out to work on rudderless, one succeeded. Three newish members did capsize drill, all did fine. A bit of just general sailing around, and even the Catalina got off the ball.

Yes, of course I believe we shouldn't be using single use plastic water bottles. Just please don't try to sell me your water bottle by telling me it will help me "reach my hydration potential."

I hate the wind overlay in the America's Cup #sailing coverage. I like the idea, but they got the colors backwards. They have dark colors for light wind and light colors for high wind. In real life, you're looking for dark spots on the water. Dark means better wind.

When someone says, "we're getting a shore lift!" punch them in the mouth and tack.

At least I know what I did wrong yesterday in my #sailing race.
A long way out from rounding a point we were high mode for a moment, I dumbly looked ahead and said, oh, we could could make that. Then I stayed high and slow waaay too long to prove to myself, yes, I could make that, instead of tacking out and going fast. Great going Mike, you really showed them that you can get around that stupid point without tacking.
The marine crustacean hunt on the spin drop didn't help either.

I'm hoping that some people have learned from the convention that maybe, just maybe, their conviction that the US is the shittiest shithole country that now or ever has existed may be a bit overstated.
And maybe that argument is not the ideal way of winning support for your policy preferences, even if they are actually better than what we currently have.
