You know, it'd be a real shame if these stickers started getting slapped onto Tesla Supercharger pedestals and cables. https://npfo.printify.me/product/17454008/this-machine-funds-fascists-stickers

Last week made the guilt-by-association problem of still owning a Tesla even more impossible to ignore, and it was easier to collect my thoughts on my blog than compose it as too many 300-character bits of a thread.

Potentially interesting method of power monitoring via a Pi HAT, plus links to a couple of previous power monitor systems they've tried out. https://www.cnx-software.com/2025/01/14/ditronix-ipem-pihat-turns-your-raspberry-pi-into-a-mains-power-energy-monitor/

Trying to reduce Instagram means looking to see what unique content I consumed there is available elsewhere.

Musicians -> YouTube subscriptions

Awful lot of artists that have insta, Twitter, but not bluesky or masto, definitely not pixelfed (though I also am not in a hurry to make yet another acct).

Reality - using the latest version of outlook: select the message, get the message in the first screenshot, followed by a popup saying Outlook is configuring... something. Then get the second screenshot. clicking the link to read the message redirects to Outlook online, where you log into your O365/exchange account, & only then can you finally read the message. This is clearly some definition of "seamless" I'm unfamiliar with. Though I'll concede it's probably still easier than the alternatives

Good to know that email encryption isn't any better now than the last time I was unfortunate enough to have to deal with PGP. Integrated, Encrypted, email. Choose any one. Note that "user friendly" is nowhere in there. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/learn-about-protected-messages-in-microsoft-365-2baf3ac7-12db-40a4-8af7-1852204b4b67

According to MS, this is "seamless"

If you're using the SXM app, you still need mobile data, the I ❤️ Radio app kinda does the same thing format-wise, albeit with commercials and possibly irrelevant local stuff. Otherwise any number of paid-tier streaming services would give you most of the same curated-ish playlists for new music discovery but also better control over what you listen to.

Its only application is for vehicles where the existing head unit has SXM but not Bluetooth or aux, or people traveling in fringe mobile coverage areas that also don't have music downloaded for offline play. Otherwise, it's just corporate radio with a different transport method.

Each channel has a different group of songs, but because the genre overlaps, there's duplicates between stations, and you get repeats if you listen to the same station for more than a few hours. I'm guessing this is probably an artifact of their licensing model.

I definitely discovered some new music, but I'm honestly not sure why this still exists other than inertia subscriptions, and I have no clue why Tesla added it in 2024.

my app-based Sirius/XM trial impressions listening to Octane & its derivatives (Deep Cuts, Test Drive, Just Music) for 30 days: The online-only channels have the added benefit of being able to skip songs, but it's still a playlist & it's still clearly using the standard corporate radio algorithm to rotate a current 50-100 songs + a few throwbacks that get overplayed for a few weeks until their play score drops enough for them to get pulled from rotation then a new group rotates in.

Another in a long series of things where they either intentionally named it this way or didn't consult any 12 year old boys first.

mDNS does not seem to work properly in WSL2 mirrored mode. I tried setting dnsTunneling=false in .wslconfig but that doesn't seem to fix it. Current issue open on it is here: https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/11852

Their mama (dubbed Artemis for her hunting prowess) was neutered and released because she was not aggressive but also not interested in being a house cat. She has a nice warm box outside and food when she wants it, and a neighborhood to supervise.

I met these three little ladies in Oct when they were eating a squirrel in my driveway. I worked with a local rescue to trap them and make sure they were healthy, and am currently fostering them. The two voidlets are Circe and Eris, and the tabby is Calliope. We think they're about 12-14 weeks old. If you are looking for a new feline overlord or 3, they're up for adoption. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc0i-oqSV3fLX9pRzMX1h7LIyM7EXslGz51LE2vLll2ycMZwg/viewform?pli=1

Also the writing and acting is sufficiently bad that I'm still not sure if the way Pentatonix was written (they're kind of insufferable and their on camera agent also hates them) was laughing at them, or with them, ie it's not clear they were completely in on the joke.

Bonus points for featuring their two "Christmas" songs that are not only not Christmas songs, but huge downers at times in the movie where it's supposed to be background for happy: Hallelujah, and White Winter Hymnal.

Hoo boy. Fiancee and I watched "Meet Me Next Christmas" on Netflix last night. seemed like a good idea because it featured Pentatonix, I'm an a cappella nerd, so I figured maybe Pitch Perfect: Christmas edition, and we were looking for cute fluffy Xmas fare.

Narrator: "it was in fact a very bad idea."

I was expecting marginal acting, a predictable plot and cliches. We were not prepared. Even the romcom fan was rolling her eyes 20 min in.

Hive mind question: I have an HP DL360G7 with a RAID defined on a P410i controller. If I were to do something like upgrade that to a G9 or G10 system with an equivalent RAID controller, and I move all the disks to the new machine, can I import/recover the existing RAID from the disks? Or is that defined on the controller itself/not compatible that way? I'm used to ZFS pools, so I'm thinking along those lines- backup/restore is possible but moving the disks seems a much simpler way to migrate.

Pro Tip for recruiters: Don't be like Will Fallon at AGS Associates and spam text people at 4:32AM ET because you're based in London and apparently don't understand timezones. It is unlikely to make people interested in hearing about the candidates you represent. Also, here's a new legitimate "fake" phone number and email address to put in web forms if you're pretty sure they want to use your contact info to spam you.

The existence of this 2x10GE-T QSFP leads to the obvious conclusion of one that is a very short breakout cable with 4 10GE-T sockets on the end so you can use all 4 ports. One could further imagine extending the length of that breakout cable to say 0.5m so that it doubles as a flog for those with certain specific kinks. A cat o' 5 tails, if you will.
