When they shoot part two of #Wicked the two leads should switch roles—Cynthia Erivo should play Glinda and Ariana Grande should play Elphaba. Don't even mention it until the movie comes out and blow everyone's mind.

This is terrific—previously-unseen footage of Jimi Hendrix (then 23) as a backup guitarist on a 1965 TV show.

It's kind of poignant that you have to squint to see him and strain your ears to hear what he's playing, but it's rewarding. His trademark style can be made out and his panache and confidence is all there.

I don't know that it's a film for everyone, but "A Real Pain" is the first movie that's made a big impression on me in a long time. It was unique, and the characters felt very real.

I'm somewhat confused about which of the two leads I identify with most.

I have a #Wicked question.

The Wikipedia articles don't make this clear.

In the movie, she arrives at the university but she isn't enrolled. She's only enrolled after Morrible sees her use magic.

In the stage play, does it happen that way? Or is she enrolled all along?

This is one of the most annoying things about #Mastodon web's UI.

When you sign up for a new account, which needs manual approval, you get two completely contradictory messages:

--

  1. Your application is pending review by our staff. This may take some time. You will receive an email if your application is approved.

  1. Your account is fully operational.

--

I would report this as an issue, but, surely someone has reported it already? Is it on the "won't fix" list?

I reported something similarly bad [notifications aren't dated] and apparently it's "won't fix" so I don't know if there's any point.

We fret and obsess over how people find the signup process here more difficult than FB/Twitter but here's something we could fix in an hour.

Just watched "Lockerbie: a search for truth" which ended, I thought, on a note of We Will Never Know For Sure What Happened.

But then they casually hit me with this:

[#]TodayILearned that if you ask Google how to pronounce "Zendaya"

  1. it gives you two versions, British and American

  1. they are exactly the same but one sounds more upbeat and cheerful and the other one is more "yeah, yeah, Zendaya, whatevs".

Some questions about #elf

  1. Does Buddy have superpowers? Supernatural powers? His snowball fight and decorating speed hint that he does.

  1. If he's so incredible at decorating, why does he suck at the toy-construction tasks compared to the other elves?

  1. Why does he eat the gum on the streets after Santa specifically told him not to?

  1. How does he know the lyrics to “Baby It’s Cold Outside”? It's not a Christmas song, it's a creepy ‘seduction’ song from an old musical.

  1. How does a suburban paediatrician confirm that he’s Walter’s son within minutes? Does he have a DNA machine out the back?

  1. Is it OK for Jovi to be dating a man who’s clearly mentally ill?

  1. Did Miles Finch have issues with the plasma TV in his home in Vail, Colorado? They had technical problems at high altitudes.

Currently watching that creepy movie in which an affable Hugh Grant welcomes two vulnerable people into his home … It's “About A Boy” (2002).

“Red One” was a fascinating flop of a movie.

Amazing special effects, an interesting, coherent world with a version of Santa which made him cool and interesting.

However … who was supposed to watch this? It's WAY too scary for kids and too mawkish for adults. Also two of the most likeable actors in the world, Chris Evans and The Rock didn't have an ounce of chemistry.

I have decided to give my teenage child some Great Short Stories to read over the holidays.

No dates, no author names, no context at all, just “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” still warm from the family laser printer.

That, plus “The Lottery” and “The Nine Billion Names Of God” were my starting point.

What next? Suggestions please?

The movie “Juror #2” had a great concept, but nothing about the plot held up to even a moment’s scrutiny. Completely mad.

Spoilers, but:

• It requires us to believe that a post mortem can't tell the difference between injuries from being hit by a car and injuries from a fall.

• It requires us to believe the defence, when someone died on a road at night, wouldn't put forward the theory that a car accident was the cause.

Maybe the book worked harder to get around these problems but the movie sure didn't. Lazily directed/edited as all #ClintEastwood movies are. He should retire. Good performances though, respect to Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette.

Tim Allen is problematic. That said, I quite enjoy “The Santa Clause”, I even like the sequels. Aisha Tyler as Mother Nature in the third one is amazing.

But the worst thing about it is, everyone in the world now apparently thinks Santa’s full name is “Santa ClausE” with an “e” at the end.

This drives me insane. It irritates me more than “irregardless” or people who put the dollar sign on the end of an amount. It even irritates me more than “intensive purposes”.

• Santa’s name is Claus.

• A paragraph or section of a legal document is a Clause.

• The movie's name is a PUN!
