One of the many things I do is Finite Group: a collective of cool maths people who have a community Discord, and monthly livestreams where we share interesting maths. It's free to join the Discord, and the livestreams cost less than a large fancy coffee per month! Find out more and join at https://finitegroup.co.uk

Did you know that a group of mathematicians and number fans are putting together a collaborative playlist of videos in an attempt to say all 41 million digits of the newly-discovered largest known prime number? The question is: Can humans say the largest prime number before we find the next one? Find out more and get involved at https://saytheprime.com

There's another episode of @offgridpod out now, that people who like listening to podcasts with me in (that are sort-of about crosswords but don't really need you to know anything about cryptic crosswords) might enjoy: https://offgrid.tlmb.net/2024/12/17/agnes-parisian-chocolate-ep-47/

If you're looking for something fun/silly to do over the intermediate time between Christmas and New Year, why not contribute to a global project to collectively make videos of humans saying all 41 million digits of the largest known prime number? It'll take you about 3.5 minutes to say your chunk! Details at https://saytheprime.com

Enjoying how lovely our #cheerlights tree is! Made from a Raspberry Pi Zero W with Pimoroni Blinkt hat, a laser cut base and topper previously made by https://qwirkshop.co.uk, and a bit of Python.
Since they changed the way it works, last year I think (and removed the need to interact with garbage Twitter APIs, since there's a nice feed at https://cheerlights.com along with instructions and guidance, plus a Discord server and various integrations) there's only a limited range of colours available to display.
This is slightly sad, as it means my code that recognises all the HTML colours is no longer needed, and the custom routines I wrote, including rainbow and candycane stripes, are no longer triggered. But I've sneakily replaced some of the less useful colours with them ("pink", which doesn't render well on the Blinkt, now does candycane red and white stripes, and I've been inspired to write a subtle fireplace effect for "orange", which also looks a bit funny on the Blinkt).
This video doesn't show any of them nearly as nice as they look in real life, but hopefully this gives an idea. A fun project if you have any device with wifi and LEDs! (I believe @drlucyrogers once made a pair of platform boots with #cheerlights in!)
