Woken by the wind. Switched my mobile on to check for a weather update and it exploded into life with a second government warning siren

That's really not good for a nervous half-awake body at 4.30am

How's everyone doing?

Feeling for friends on Gigha and Colonsay. Both islands look to be about to get the worst of the winds

So what have you been doing to prepare for #StormEowyn?

I'm wondering how you can prepare for the possibility of your roof blowing off, or your windows blowing in. I've stashed my fiddle under a very chunky table - that seems the most important thing right now!

I'm thinking I'll shut the curtains tonight and not open them again until Saturday

Between 3 of us, the energy companies have over £3000 of our money, taken ahead of time for energy we haven't used. For all of us, the energy companies have been taking too much money every year, so without intervention, the balance held by the energy company increases. So far I'm the only one of the 3 that has managed to get the energy company to agree to a solution

I'm just imagining this scaled up across the country

Have the energy companies found a new way to screw us over? I contacted my supplier recently as I'd built up a surplus in payments since getting solar panels put in. It wasn't straightforward to sort it out.

I spoke to 2 folk about it today, and BOTH had similar stories, but have much bigger surpluses. The person with the biggest surplus has also just been told their Direct Debit amount is going to be increased!

Anyone else got similar experience?

We have a grow cube in our community centre, for germinating seeds early. It doesn't seem to get used much.

Does anyone have any suggestions for seeds that could be germinated early in the season, that would either survive in a seed tray for several months, or be hardy enough to be planted out when there's still a risk of frosts/winter gales?
