Nice distraction and opportunity to help those impacted by the LA fires. Steve Balmer has pledged to match every dollar donated.

When they both arrived they were rough looking and terrified. After only a few weeks they evolved into the love bugs you see here. They were both someone's pets at one time. Unloved or lost we’ll never know. Tomorrow they go to their forever home, together! It will be a tough day for me as I have to say goodbye to them. Enjoy your new lives Piglet and Lacy! 2/2

Being retired, finding fun ways to use my free time productively can be a challenge. I discovered the perfect volunteer gig. I spend about 18 hours a week working with a stray rescue org socializing stray cats that they or others have trapped. Here is Piglet and Lacy. They are two strays that were brought into the shelter 3 months ago. 1/2

These are the last two photos of my owl adventure. On the same day I first saw the babies emerge from the nest, they began to explore the other trees. This was the last time I saw them. Well, we still have a lot of Barred Owls living in the woods behind us and I hope that those I see and hear are my babies all grown up.

They look like fuzzy bowling pins. 😆

I knew these owls were probably going to be fully fledged soon so I spent a LOT of time outside watching the nest. I was sure I was going to miss the moment. Then this happened! One of the babies emerged from the nest. There were only two little owlettes but they were as cute as could be.

Then one day while watching the owl's nesting spot, out of an old knot hole, I see this. A baby!

Here one of the owls is just about to dive into the forest floor to catch some prey. It was not successful this time.

One of the Barred Owls in flight with prey. It's a little dark but if you enlarge it you can see the details. I watched daily as the two owls worked feverishly on their nest and every once in awhile one of the owls would bring food.

This is one of my favorite photos of, I believe, the male based only on his behavior. He had been hanging out in the oak tree right off our deck but I couldn't get a good vantage point. The light was perfect so I wanted to get a shot. Eventually he hopped over to this limb but he was facing away from me so I gave him my best imitation of a barred owl hoot. He looked right at me!

A few years ago we had a pair of Barred Owls take up residence in an old hollowed out dead tree. In the spirit of distraction on this sad day, I thought I'd share a series of photos about these owls.

Here the loving couple groom each other. Moments before they had just shared a meal and clearly one of them had a piece of food stuck in their beak. 😆 "Here let me get that"

Aww, this is so sweet and thoughtful. While parents have absolutely no obligation to apologize for their crying or fussing infant, traveling is stressful and people are people. This seems like a great way to proactively disarm grumpy travelers. Such a thoughtful gift would make me an immediate ally and any grumps would have to go through me! Shit, put Oreo cookies in there and I’LL hold you kid during the flight. We’ll have a blast.

I created a #pixelfed account using the same alias that I use on Mastodon. I didn't realize that I could just logon with my Mastodon credentials and create the same alias on pixelfed. Is there a way to combine these two accounts?

Do any old timers remember The Tartanpodcast hosted by Mark Hunter circa 2005-2008? He featured local Scottish artists of the day. I used to love his Sleepy Sunday and Mellow Monday shows. There are a handful of episodes archived out there but I wish there were more. The Wayback Machine did not reliably archive the podcast.

Woke this morning to my neighbor putting up huge TRUMP 2024 banners on her front porch. She's probably responding to the 7 or so #Harris signs we and our neighbors conspired to put up at the same time after the convention. I feel bad for her. Several years ago her son committed suicide in their back yard (shotgun) and she found him. It changed her. Ever since she has been full of hate and anger. It doesn't surprise me that she would embrace #Trumpism.
