A decade ago I had the wish to pay for a social medium platform instead of using it “for free”, and in return it would be ad-free and algorithm free (just like Flickr). Anyone who thought Japanese TV can sometimes be bizarre should watch carnival TV. The year 2025 is less than two weeks old, but Germany is already giving us the best fonts-in-use sample of the year.

Not sure if I remember correctly, but I think Matthew Carter once told us that Stanley Morison always used to drink a glass of champagne at 11:00 o’clock in the morning. (Looks like those 20-years old Typeradio recording have not yet been published, and it’s too foxy to fact check). Therefore this morning we celebrated our online xmas studio gathering with a classic 11:00 o’clock champagne. Such gatherings go in all directions: “We don’t run a company, but a mental space.” Happy xmas everybody!

Received email from client who bought a font license 22 years ago, and now needs to update to the OpenType format (he’s late to the party, yes). Within a few hours he received a free upgrade for the expanded and updated fonts that he bought in 2002, including free tech support. Now we think that’s pretty cool, and not common these days.
