Interesting take on the US election - during COVID the population briefly got to experience social democracy and liked it. Rent controls, govt assistance and labour regulations all designed to support average people came into force. Despite the pandemic most people felt secure for the first time in their lives.These expired during Biden's term in office and for most people all they knew was that they were there under Trump and life got harder under Biden.

Trump will make things harder still....

3 things I find wild about the possibility of a second Trump Presidency:

1. Project 2025 - the gutting of Federal Govt staff and their replacement with Trump loyalists.

2. RFK being in control of US health agencies - promising to ban vaccines and fluoridation on day one.

3. The Supreme Court ruling the the President is not subject to law - so ordering the army to arrest or assassinate rivals, no problem, selling US secrets to a foreign power, fine ...

Then there's the thing about mass deportation of immigrants - make it four.

And he's getting crazier by the day ... that's five.

That's just off the top of my head.

Trump came to power promising to ban Muslims, accusing Obama of being a "secret Muslim" and supported the invasion of Iraq. To be fair he was deeply critical that they didn't "take the oil" while they were at it. Now he needs the Muslim vote he's singing a different tune.

Toying with the idea of deleting my X (formerly Twitter) account. It's been sitting there dormant since Elon announced that he's donating $47M a month to Trump.

What are the pros and cons?

Is there a danger of it getting hijacked by bots in the deactivation process?

Will it ever be worth going back to (I have around 1200 followers)?

Any thoughts welcome ...

The Guardian doing the if you don't unconditionally support Israel then you're anti-semitic thing. See, the story is not that Israel is killing children but that some people have referenced a stereotype when talking about them killing children which is unacceptable.

The writer doesn't give one example of someone actually using the term but instead lashes out at coverage of war crimes, presumably they shouldn't be covered. He also questions the notion that Israel is killing children - he actually says how could they deliberately do that? They're just killing anyone if there are children included that's just their bad luck. So there.

The Guardian is the last legacy media I subscribe to and they're pushing it...
