Canada has three major federal parties: the centrist Liberals, the left-leaning NDP, and the far-right Conservatives. Liberals have power by virtue of a "supply and confidence agreement" between the NDP and Liberals. The NDP is ending that agreement, which almost certainly means an election sooner than the no-later-than October 2025 date required by law. We learned from Francis Haugen that facebook was aware of the harms to children and others that their algorithm caused. But they were also aware of the sweet, sweet effects on their bottom line. So they doubled down. This is reminiscent of what Exxon did when their own scientists identified the planet-trashing effects of their products on the planet and decided that their bottom line trumped all else, burying the science and funding attacks on scientiest. Are all organizations like this?

I won't die on this hill, but I will risk stubbing my toe on it: both timezones and daylight saving time are the devil's work; UTC for the win.

Once we get rid of those, do we really need to divide days up by hours, minutes and seconds? We've got fractional days to meet all our needs.

That done... do 7-day weeks - or the concept of weeks at all - meet any actual needs? Day numbers for the win. We can vote on whether to start the year with day 0 or day 1, but the year starts on a solstice.
