My favorite artifacts from David Lynch's incredible career:

  1. The Lost Highway soundtrack. Come for Lou Reed's rendition of "This Magic Moment", stay for Angelo Badalamenti's dark, moody jazz.

  1. Dune. I know the man himself had feelings about this movie and doesn't consider it his best work, but it's the weird gothic space opera that captured my weird gothic teenage heart.

Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs have a whole series of cover albums? And they’re fantastic? What rock have I been living under?

Wrote about some updates to my personal site that I've been working on; a new approach to showing my work, anchor positioning goodies, and more.

While we were working on migrating off of Intercom, I noticed HelpScout had an API for hosted docs, and, well: https://aaadaaam.com/notes/headless-frontend-11ty/

I just can't comprehend how you can hear anything that comes out of his mouth and say "yes, more of this".

I really thought we were better than this.

New on the blog: https://aaadaaam.com/notes/house-fan/

It’s a story about a house fan emulator I built as an offline PWA,

that answers important questions like “why?” and “seriously, what even is this?”

Ate a churro while petting a piglet today. Not sure I'm ever going to top that TBH.

my main takeaway from the competing masonry proposals is that I would use the heck out of single axis grid tracks and grid-default-column

Something that @jennsimmons does in https://webkit.org/blog/16026/css-masonry-syntax/ that's a broadly useful design practice is laying out clear design goals.

It's often the case when there's disagreement about solutions that people have different-but-unarticulated goals in mind, and it's almost impossible to come to a reasoned consensus when that's true.

The way out is to come to an agreement on goals, and then compare how various solutions stack up against them.

I also wrote about a long-running side-quest exploring color system design that touches on the approach I’m using in Grease: https://aaadaaam.com/notes/chasing-color/

New 11ty, new Grease: https://grease.aaadaaam.com/

Reworked for 11ty v3, with extra greasy bits like a modern multi-theme-ready color system, refined and up-to-date default styles, new docs, a nice kitchen sink demo to make styling defaults super easy, and a new landing page design because I simply couldn’t not.

I've been exploring relative color syntax, and this was a bit of a surprise.

Unlike with color mix, you can't use a color defined with light-dark() as an input and expect to have a good time.
