Ooh. I’ve never attended the international #FOSS4G conference so the recent announcement that the 2026 edition will be held in #Hiroshima, #Japan 🇯🇵 is very interesting. It might be good to prepare for this.

I saw that I have had my current primary email address (via #Gmail) for over two decades now which means that my #Google account is that old too. The Gmail stats also say that I have a little under 60k email threads in there.

I’m not commenting on the merits of the various Oscar nominations especially on the outrage against one film in particular, but of the 10 Best Picture nominees, I’ve already seen 3: Conclave, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked. Three is actually pretty average for me because a lot of the nominees get screening schedules in my country after getting nominated.

I had this interpretation while reading the EO, but it seems that the “Gulf of America” name only applies to the area inside U.S. 🇺🇸 EEZ + continental shelf and not the whole gulf. This is the same interpretation that @maproomblog states here: https://www.maproomblog.com/2025/01/naming-the-gulf/

This is analogous to the “West Philippine Sea“ name that the #Philippines 🇵🇭 uses to refer to its vicinity within the South China Sea and not to the whole sea.

I randomly watched this 2022 35-minute documentary about the largest flag manufacturer in the U.S. 🇺🇸 and its very diverse and often immigrant employees. Despite being short, it was an unusually moving look at the nature of American patriotism through the eyes of those who make its flags. It’s also coincidental that I saw it on the eve of the inauguration.
