In case anyone needs to know, on iOS/macOS Apple Maps is pretty good these days for the UK and has been for a long time, and there's also Organic Maps as an alternative that uses OpenStreetMap as its data source.

Anyone any good at video editing?

Without changing anything else, overlay a brown shirt on him with the arm band, just to prove it once and for all that it is what it is to the dipshits who are pretending it is something other than what it was.

I see that Microsoft is Microsofting again.

We've been upgraded to the new Planner at work. Let's check to see what's changed... oh good, they're renaming things to make it easier to use:

"Project Plan 1 was renamed Planner Plan 1"

"Project Plan 3 was renamed Planner and Project Plan 3"

"Project Plan 5 was renamed Planner and Project Plan 5"

"This simplified naming reflects the value delivered within each SKU."

Er... OK. If you say so.

It is difficult to come away from observing the past 40 years with anything other than the sense that the rich and powerful want nothing less than to cause misery to and murder billions of people.

And, for a reason that completely escapes me as a person with a life sciences background, they seem to think they will survive the ecosystem collapse they're careening us all towards.

I can no longer see any sensible explanation for the way they behave.

Oh joy. I'm a bit behind the curve in discovering that podcasting services are likely to be flooded in the near future with vapid LLM-generated podcasts thanks to Google. Just fantastic.

Is there a single mofo in a position of authority at any of these tech companies who is capable of stopping for one millisecond and thinking, 'is what we're doing a good idea?'

Imagine being someone who willingly handed your credit card details to them to get a blue tick. The naivety of it, when basic and gaping security flaws like this were inevitable under its current leadership.

A different kind of #FossilFriday from me today:

A few hundred thousand years ago, hippos, elephants, lions and other large mammals better associated with modern-day Africa used to roam what is now London in the UK. This skeleton is a hippo and shows exactly why you don't want to be near the front end of Africa's most-dangerous-to-humans animal (mosquitoes and other insects excluded).

Taken at the Britain: One Million Years of the Human Story exhibition in the Natural History Museum in 2014.

IANAL but isn't what Microsoft is doing with the opting in to their AI training on LinkedIn - without any informed consent being given - against the GDPR?

Isn't it a clear and obvious change in the use of people's personal data for which they didn't consent to at the time of creating their account/agreeing to the most recent Ts&Cs?

The GDPR is still law in the UK despite the stupidity of Brexit.

Anyone with actual knowledge in this area know?

18th major release, more than 17 years since the first release of iOS (or iPhone OS as it was back then) and the "Learn more" screen for a Software Update still doesn't use the default text settings for your phone and instead presents content in a micro-sized font that requires perfect eyesight to read. Ffs Apple, when - if ever - will you get your shit together?

(Getting tired of writing the equivalent of this every time a new iOS is released)

Anyone in England or London know how to safely dispose of a lithium battery that is already swollen and a fire risk*?

My council's website is currently offline so I can't see what they say to do.

It annoys me that people will say to those who are younger than them, "but you have no idea about x, y and z" when the people saying it have absolutely no idea about the 'x, y and z' of the people they're talking to either. We need more younger people in politics. It should never be the preserve of the old.

I am a few decades older than this MP. I have never experienced what he's experienced because society is in constant flux. It is not a monolith.

I have no idea what it's like to grow up with constant exposure to the often grim news and views of people from across the entire globe all day, every day. I have no idea what it's like to grow up with the existential threat of climate change as a thing that is here and now.

His age is relevant. But for +ve reasons, not -ve ones.
