You can see where this is heading - there'll soon be meetings at which the only ones present are AI note-taking apps. :)

"Apps with earthy names like Fireflies, Otter and Granola are appearing alongside their owners to silently take notes, summarise the agenda into bullet points and capture next actions on Zoom calls and Teams meetings. And now, a growing number of workers are beginning to send AI note-takers in their place to attend meetings they don’t have time for."

Ah well. All part of history I think. You have to take the broader view.

Good idea, though this might require us to take climate change seriously.

'Experts are calling for a “managed retreat” from residential development on coastal areas as rising sea levels and climate change-fuelled storm surges increase the rate of erosion, jeopardising an estimated $25 billion worth of Australian property.

'As global temperatures continue to rise, so, too, are our sea levels, playing havoc with our vanishing coastlines.'

New at my Patreon... I saw a new show of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's work, and left in two minds. Is it fun and colourful, or lacking in substance? Or both?

I'd be happy for the Vic Premier to announce the airport rail link is back on, even if it means the SRL is temporarily suspended. The airport train should never have been suspended in the first place. Sixty years we've been waiting for that!

"A dramatic collapse in popular support for the Victorian government has heaped pressure on Premier Jacinta Allan to accept an offer of an additional $2 billion in federal government funding to build a rail line to Melbourne Airport instead of demanding more cash for the Suburban Rail Loop."

Reality check.

"As Elon Musk salutes his way into political power, not even rich people are relaxed about wealth any more. On the first day of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, the pro-tax campaign group Patriotic Millionaires released survey results from 2,000 high net-worth individuals across the G20: more than half of them thought extreme wealth was a threat to democracy, and over two-thirds agreed that the visible influence of the wealthy was leading to a decline in trust of the media, the justice system and democracy."

I laughed at the mention in that article of the following inconvenience:

"... the gigantic suitcases blocking my way on the shinkansen..."

What is it about tourists wanting to take cases the size of fridges on their travels??? I'm always tripping over them on high-speed trains in Europe, where there really isn't enough room for them. What on earth do people need that much space for?

I suppose that's always the question with increasing mass tourism - is the spending being spread around to benefit everyone, or being concentrated while locals are annoyed by the numbers of visitors?

After seeing the Kusama exhibition at the NGV, @NarrelleMHarris and I headed to Riverland, a bar overlooking the Yarra. Lovely day there, sun came out and it was all very mellow.

Out for breakfast in Albert Park. Do you think this place took its name from the Paul Kelly song?

Also, what would you like to order?

Had a good day writing about the Normandy region of France. I'm not much of a Francophile so wasn't expecting the research to be that interesting. Turns out there's some great stuff to see in the area; Rouen seems very appealing in particular.

I'm at Little Sparrow cafe in Emporium, and they're playing ABBA's Super Trouper. As you do.

"Tonight the super trouper beams are gonna blind me (super trouper)

But I won't feel blue (super trouper)

Like I always do (super trouper)

'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you..."
