The trick to enjoying history is

knowing more about history.

Each book is more interesting for everything I already know that it intertwines with.

This post brought to you by the htm library for JS. It converts your jsx-looking string to HTML, without using JSX.

The code strikes me as elegant.

When I pass an extra closing tag, the exception says "h.push is not defined"

When I miss a closing tag, it returns the wrong type.

Stalin put a lot of thought and observation into his twisted strategies for most of his life

This worked well enough that as he aged he thought he was omniscient and went with his whims.

(I'm reading a history of the Cold War)

I put a ton of thought and enough work into my conference talks for many years, and they were great.

Danger: This can make me think all my talks are great, and I don't put much effort into them sometimes.

(These ones are not great, they're ~pretty good.)

One cannot explicitly change what is implicit.

...[beware] the lure of urgent transformation as a controlled process.
