these posts by @byroot are fantastic and can really level up how you think about improving Ruby performance if you maintain a performance sensitive gem, definitely take a look.

After seeing a coworker navigate command history much faster, I am giving the tool they were using a try, check out atuin which has a really nice CLI set of improvements for command history.

I like open source, I also like companies that have some of their code and projects being worked on in the open... PRs, discussions, fixes, performance, etc... If it isn't core IP and the company is building off open source, it is really great to publicly be contributors and supporters as well.

Ok, now receiving PRs along with feature requests that mention, I don't know the language, just asked AI to add it for me...

I wouldn't have predicted that a year ago.

While I like that it makes it more accessible, it is going to be easy to overwhelm projects with extremely bad feature requests and code.

Interesting times

When trying to make performance improvements, always good to benchmark and profile. I had an idea to improve perf on something, and at first look it sounded like a great idea... in the end it basically would have ZERO improvement and add complexity... scrapped the whole branch...

That's OK though because it is always good to practice and get fast and good at benchmarking things.
