Is YouTube blocking video playback on Mastodon? I haven't been able to play embedded YouTube links recently.

Pen-and-paper algorithm exploration with my 10 yo son tonight. We tested how simple algorithms could lead to patterns found in nature, notably shapes like animal spots, by varying 3 main parameters. Next step will be thinking how we can write a function that does the same and explores the parameter space, creating menageries of images. Better than simple cellular automata but quite simple still.

Every year on my birthday, I take some time to think about the past and incoming years. Here are snippets of this year's summary:

This year's family present is a piano. All of us are very happy, and after many years without playing any music, I've slowly gone through a few pages of very easy scores. A nice slow return to music in our lives.

This years attempt at #linocut #linogravure to make cards for the family. Still some obvious improvement to be done with inking but better than last year!

All these people playing with the #gameboy #camera made me want to try (albeit with an android app...)

Feels like I'm appearing in my #bash #terminal #linux

I'm looking for a lightweight, private, and open source way to share internal documentation for our service platform's team.

I was thinking maybe a gitlab repo and markdown files. I would prefer that we host everything.

Do you have any suggestion or experience to share?

Please boost!

I won't be reading anything online today, but I'll post this.

Be kind to yourself. Be kind to your loved ones. Be kind to your coworkers. Think of ways to widen your circle of kindness.

Geek warning:

After (too) many years, I've just escaped the dungeon carring the Orb of Zot for the first time in Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

As you can see from the screenshot, I love to play this #roguelike (sensu stricto) in the Linux terminal, with ascii character representing the game map, enemies, gear...

Be careful about where you invest your time kids.

For those of you looking for a #todolist manager, I've been using Taskwarrior for a few years now and never wanted to turn back. Their tutorial is nice.

https://taskwarrior.org/

Here is a screenshot of my setup from a while back. You can change the colors, priority values, and tags (eg ABS, Now, next...), as you want. It also supports multiple task management paradigms.

[#]bioinformatics people, what are your preferred programs for demultiplexing compressed #fastq files in the bash terminal using sets of barcodes of different lengths?

Thanks for boosting!
