I’ll be honest I’m pretty sure that station with the Hawaiian call said he was in Indiana but the rest is still cool.

Great #SOTA activation of Mt Lawlor in the San Gabriel’s today. Weather (terrestrial and ionospheric) were grand.

Taking a break from reality to do some #CitizenArchivist stuff.
Sifting through Letters Received at the Adjutant General's Office of the War Department and stumbled on U.S. Grants oath of office as Major General of Volunteers.
Different oath than is taken today for military officers, but it's similar.

For some reason this post gets boosted up heaps whenever folks find my feed. Just the right kind of nerdy I suppose.
These days I'm sifting through a file called "War Department. The Adjutant General's Office. 1821-4/28/1904"
I spend a lot of time in the #CivilWar period... In related news here's a letter where Halleck summons Maj Gen Hunter to the principal's office on behalf of Lieut Genl Grant. MmmmMMM

A #HamRadio club that is local to me (that I'd never heard of before, despite me apparently biking past their meeting place daily for the last 6 years) is folding up shop. 73 SCDXC.
I've been a ham for 35 years now and have been in and out of many a club. Some of them were instrumental in my growth as an operator. Many were not willing to grow/change themselves. With some narrow exceptions in the last 10 years I've found the clubs have been net negative on my love for the hobby.
Thoughts?

And... some fun on #TopBand this evening handing out a few points in the Stew Perry contest. My antenna is pretty terrible on 160M but it's better than nothing which is what I've had on that band for my whole life.

Whew... glad to have my home #HamRadio station back on the air after a few months off. We had some construction and I had some minor technical gremlins to solve. I now have a work around!
Hopped back on this evening for a quick a handful of QSOs with my WW2 vintage BUG with the Straight Key Century Club to knock the cobwebs out. #SKCC is a great place for some slow #MorseCode QSOs. They also have a "Sked" page to find folks to exchange numbers.

California QSO Party results are up. It was a fun contest this year. I managed the highest score in San Luis Obispo County, 3rd amongst mobile ops, and 3rd amongst #POTA ops. Pretty sure I won a POTA hat for my efforts. Much credit to the Northern California Contest Club for admining everything #NCCC #cqp #HamRadio :alex: https://www.cqp.org/Results.html

Wow... just sat as a volunteer examiner for a fully online #HamRadio test exam. The applicant was 100% #blind and using the JAWS #ScreenReader. It was amazing to watch (and hear the screen reader) as he navigated the test. He passed! Wonderful to have a new ham :) Hope to hear him on the air soon.

Radioactive Drew heads over to the Santa Susana Field lab (aka the site of of the only nuclear meltdown in CA history). Super fun geeking out about sensors and such. I ended up going down the rabbit hole on how the thalium doped sodium iodide detectors work. Fun stuff https://youtu.be/9GmB_RU0f6k?si=jXLby_prLcWJHWlw
