I've been seeing a few games that run on Amiga being released on itch.io recently. I was wondering, is there a way to follow / favorite a tag on itch? It would be nice to get notified when something new is released or something gets updated that has the Amiga tag. I've already followed some creators but following a tag would be nice.

Anyone have a quick list of pros/cons of using scoop vs winget to install apps on Windows? I've been using scoop for all my PCs for the last few years and rarely have problems. It works really well to keep things updated, so it would take some pretty big advantages for me to switch, but I'd like to know about the differences between them.

I'm asking because AFAIK, its primary means of distribution/discussion are a Facebook group and a discord. I would hope there to be some kind of community outside these platforms...

I like it because I can quickly get a sd card set up with a lot of software I want to check out, and I can also use the Shared: partition to put other things I have and quickly have access to them on the Amiga.

Anyone else here use AGS (Amiga Game Selector)? It's a distribution that works on various platforms (some emulated like Amiga Mini, Raspberry Pi, and some real hardware, upgraded or not like ECS, AGA and PiStorm).

It has games, demos, apps and it's really well put together, with care + love for the platform. There's a nice launcher with background music, categories, artwork and descriptions. You can exit to Workbench to use that too.

Welp, I predict the same thing that happened to my Twitter account will happen to my Facebook account. I will stop using it, and a few months/years later I will delete it. It's unfortunate because I was using it to keep in touch with family and friends from way back (high school/college equivalent here) but I think going back to email and phone conversations is better than participating in hateful and abusive platforms run by fascists.

Perhaps since shader languages are starting to be part of Clang/LLVM, it might be a good time to make shader languages be officially supported languages in vscode instead of requiring an extension for navigation, completion, and syntax highlighting features? Or at least an official extension, not an unmaintained 3rd party one.

Coming back to my question from yesterday about abandoned github repositories/projects. https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@skylark13/113697765018557175

One of those is vscode-shader, something I would find extremely useful if it worked correctly in my (perhaps uncommon) use case. But I don't have the knowledge to debug/fix it, and even if I did, I'm not sure if I want to take over the maintainership. The project seems to have been abandoned about 3 years ago, and nothing else filled the niche (yet?). What can we do about that?

Anyone have suggestions as to what can be done when a github project seems totally inactive? I posted PRs on two projects I find useful and it's been over a month without a response. I don't really want to fork them, but this annoys me... I could email the maintainers I guess.

If you're not going to be maintaining a project (and both were previously active with multiple releases) please put a note at the top of README.md or post a call for new maintainers in your project's Issues or something?

So I finally did it. My xitter account is now empty, locked, and marked inactive. Should have done this much sooner.

Of course, since I'm an incorrigible nostalgic, going through the archive of posts brought back good memories of interactions there. I just have to try to have more like those on here. And I hope more and more people join Mastodon instead of Bsky or others. And I really hope xitter dies soon, but not much faith in that.

It's crazy. Since January, I logged into xitter maybe half a dozen times. Updated my bio, new pinned post, liked a few of the union-related news posts about my employer.

I just went to download an archive before deleting everything (I know, I'm a few days late technically), and pretty close to 100% of the notifications on my account in almost a year are from spam bots and accounts w/malicious links in their bio. Why is anyone still on that dumpster fire of a "social media" platform?

I've been using #Tusky for a while on my phone. For some reason, I wanted to try something different, so I installed #Moshidon. I like it! Sometimes, when getting new posts, it resets scroll position to the top (newest post), which is a bit annoying. But it has one feature I wished for since forever: when replying, I can scroll to see the post I'm replying to, just above the area where I'm typing! So convenient.

I sent this question to tailscale support but haven't gotten a reply yet, I suspect it's too basic and you're expected to know this if you're using it at all...

I manage a very minimal network at home, and just want a simple solution without having to become a whole IT department...

I would like file shares or other things to work the same on the laptop whether it's on the local network or through the tailnet.

Also if the NAS IP changes it would continue working by name but not by IP. Also I don't want to have to keep a hosts file up to date...

Is there a simple way to make this work? I don't want to have to maintain my own DNS server unless it's the only way...

I have a kinda technical question. I'm trying out #tailscale . I set it up on my home desktop and on a laptop. The desktop is also sharing the subnet 10.0.0.0/24, my local network.

If I set up my laptop to be outside my local network, it can ping machines on my local network through the tailnet. For example 10.0.0.203 which is my NAS. But it can't ping them by name (it can if it's on the local network).

ping 10.0.0.203 <-- works locally or through tailnet

ping qnap <-- works locally only

Looks like OOSU10+ already includes a setting to disable Copilot and Recall. I've been using this for a while already, so I think I'm covered. I can at least use this on the PCs I manage myself.

I didn't ask for copilot literally anywhere. Not in my OS, not in my word processor, not in my email, not as a dedicated button on my laptop's keyboard. I did not ask for Recall. I did not ask for AI as a central feature of my OS, ever.

Please don't force it on me. It's not a good look.

This is deeply worrying. I wonder what can possibly be the value to users. Whatever it might be, it feels like an invasion of privacy, both personal and corporate for companies with NDAs.

If you get updated to Windows 11 24H2, please disable Recall. Check that it stays disabled every time you update (until they make it impossible to disable and we need to find some other way).

And please don't tell me the solution is Linux. I use Linux. But for work it's not an option.

Normally, when artists do this, they add a qualifier so we know this is not the original version, but a newer one. Like "2023 remaster" or something. But in these two cases at least there is no such qualifier. I'm sure there's a story there...

Another example is "Somebody Dance With Me" by DJ Bobo. I was a massive DJ Bobo fan in the 90s. I had the single CD of this song, with lots of different mixes on it. None of them were the one that plays on Spotify. And the one that plays on Spotify is just called "Somebody Dance With Me", no "such and such mix" or anything, so it's as if that's supposed to be the original / real version? But I never heard that version in the 90s. Did DJ Bobo just put out a new "definitive" version of his song?
