Sometimes, reported posts allow me to discover accounts of interesting/funny/creative/caring people - and they're often the reported. Other times, I need to bleach my eyes. Humanity. Gotta luv it

logged on to Mastodon for the first time in a couple of months (instead of app) and I still remembered my password.

Also, hi everyone. I'm still juggling heaps of tough life stuff, but have decided to hide from it all today. And hang out with you, instead

On this boiling hot mid Summer day, I'm packing up second rental in one month, for family members that can't (one died, one hospitalised). Everything hurts, and I just want to nap. I'm too old for this 😮‍💨

Today's schedule: finish packing up my daughter's rental. Then, visiting her in hospital (she's been there since Wednesday. And will stay there until NDIS listens & acts).

Word on the street is there's serious ramping going on at all major Adelaide hospitals today. I can confirm that ambulance callouts are experiencing long delays. So perhaps don't do anything risky tonight. Have an early night, instead.

I remember being glued to the TV that day in 1989 when the people tore down the Berlin Wall; I danced in joy in my living room. That's nothing compared to the joy, the admiration, I've felt seeing recent updates from Palestine. From the river to the sea, Palestine WILL be free 🇵🇸

I propose that 20 January becomes an annual International Day of Recognition for Indigenous Resistance Fighters. Named in honour of the countless brave, sovereign Palestinian resistance fighters. ✊🏾 in solidarity, always

Apologies for the slackness, but thank you to fediverse peeps who sent some support my way via PayPal or KoFi a few days ago. It's a relief knowing that, even though life is still very hard at the moment, I can catch up on bills and put some towards hiring a removalist for a few hours. My sore, injured, exhausted body also thanks you

Obviously, I needed some more drama. At 10pm, I was settling in for another night on my daughter's uncomfortable sofa - until I heard a loud sound, followed by what sounded like a heavy monsoonal downpour. I knew no rain was forecasted, and SA does not get heavy summer rain, so went outside to check. No rain, of course. But the hot water system had an impressive hot geyser coming out of the top, hitting the roof, before falling down.

It's not my place, so I had no idea where the mains are. I think it's a shared metre with the other two units?

So, I walked through the shower of hot water, bare foot through a puddle (realised afterwards that was not a good idea, but it was an emergency). Found and unplugged the electrical cord, and turned lots of valves until I found the one that feeds water into the tank. Then picked up a loose hose, to stop water from gravity feeding out.

Now I am soaking wet. There's no hot water, it's the weekend, and I'm wondering how much of a bastard the new landords and agents are. So glad my daughter is moving out soon.

Observation: the disability sector in South Australia would crumble if not for the skilled, caring, people-orientated, low paid, contract-based support workers that have migrated or arrived as refugees from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. And, frankly, some agencies need to value them more.

The universe has been throwing curve balls at me since mid-November, and will continue to do so until at least mid-February. I'm exhausted, sore, broke, and haven't worked or rested for months due to needing to provide crisis support to family members (mother got sick & died. Adult daughter with disability suddenly lost the ability to walk & care for herself, and is injured from bad falls. I've moved into her place, sleeping on a tiny hard sofa, to provide her with 24/7 personal care and lifting. I'm packing up both of their rentals. Hurt my back with all the lifting. Dog dying of cancer. Etc etc).

I've been considering asking for mutual aid, but lots of people are doing it tough. And, besides, I'm an unlikeable bitch :alot:

And I think it's my birthday in a few days.

My sore knee/leg made it through clearing out my late mother's rental unit, and today's memorial. But then the pain suddenly went up a few notches. After trying panadol, ice packs, and alcohol, I'm now eyeing off her *stash of unused oxycodone and other goodies. But I'll be a sensible adult, and instead sleep off this pain.

(* It's a good stash)

Finished cleaning my mother's rental unit yesterday. Spent today going through decades of family photos and preparing for her memorial on Friday. Collecting her ashes tomorrow.

Being home all day meant I could spend more time with the dog. She's not well (late stage cancer). I think she's also preparing to leave.
