The second best way is to spell my name “Lesley” in your reply email

(and/or pronounce it “less-lee,” it’s "lez-lee”).

The best way to have me NOT take your case is to ignore the simple “potential client intake” directions I sent in my first email reply to you and, instead, do exactly what I tell you NOT to do.

Lawyers have procedures not to be difficult but to protect against things like accidental conflicts. Showing that you think you are too special to follow our procedures means you are almost surely a dick client—likely not to follow instructions later and that is almost always very bad. No thanks.

USCO Report on AI includes this on copyrightability (yay!):

It (USCO) concludes that the outputs of generative AI can be protected by copyright only where a human author has determined sufficient expressive elements. This can include situations where a human-authored work is perceptible in an AI output or a human makes creative arrangements or modifications of the output, but not the mere provision of prompts.

So much for watching the Super Bowl this year.

Advertisers should pull their ads, but they won’t.

If only people would accept that money is an illusion and that we can share our labor, resources, etc., without an exchange of imaginary value-markers (i.e., dollars, euros, whatever)(see, e.g., Star Trek). Then, billionaires would be worth what they actually provide to others. That would REALLY fuck Elon, et al.

The Fiancé said it wasn’t a Marvel film so it’s too hard for lots of Americans. Younger people (some/too many) don’t want to have to think when they watch. Then he shared that he read thar many younger people don’t like Forrest Gump…they think it is stupid. Now, I can get not liking it because it’s unbelievable (btw, I do like it), but stupid? And not caring about the relationships? Yikes.

I just watched Zemekis’ Here and it is so much better than we’ve been told. I think the reviews were harsh because it challenges the idea of linear narrative and camera movement (there is none…almost…no spoilers). Sure, Hanks and Wright didn’t look 18 even with the cgi, but we’re supposed to suspend some disbelief whenever we watch a film.

I keep reading people saying we need to impeach Trump again. No, forget that. It won’t do any good (he has no shame) and the Senate will not vote him out. In short, stronger measures are needed.

Coups can come from the left, y’know.

Just saying.

We went to a dog shelter today to potentially adopt and I almost had a full panic attack. Apparently I am not yet over all the Mongo (our dog who was super reactive and aggressive) biting. It sucks.

Guess I need to do some more work on my issues.

Slept horribly last night, mostly due to Trump-related nightmares; but when I got up finally at 5:10a, feeling like someone had beaten me in my sleep, I put on my big girl shorts and did 3 miles (walk/run) in the 44°F dawn, then 45 minutes of yoga.

Because I refuse to let the dark forces defeat me.

Somebody send what’s his name the DC cop who has been so brave to go arrest that pasty ketamine-infused asshole for illegal access to federal property. Cuff him and drag his ass out. JFC.

I’ve been non-violent and anti-violence for a loooong time, but I can honestly say the list of people I think should get a bullet between the eyes not only exists in my head now, it is getting longer every day.

JFC people, he wasn’t elected, hasn’t been approved by the Senate, and generally just has no damn right to be doing anything connected with the US government; so why isn’t Musk getting arrested??? Seriously. At the very least, he’s trespassing, particularly since he doesn’t have the right security clearance for most of his fuckery—use that as a reason to haul his ass out of any federal building.

I went to Costco today to pick up just a couple of things and the place was packed. Seriously, the busiest I have EVER seen it and mostly with obvious immigrants of every variety (English was probably the least heard language). These people were stocking up for the long haul, it looked like.

My heart broke a bit for them. So many looked scared or worried.

It amazes me how big corporations are so afraid of federal litigation regarding DEI policies that they drop the policies preemptively, but weren’t afraid of the previous admins going after them for sexual harassment or racism in hiring or OSHA violations or tax evasion or environmental violations or…
