IANAL but I'd have thought Oracle and before that SUN did really far too little to protect their JavaScript TM, and it's become well and truly genericized. While Google and XEROX contested and protected their TMs, Zipper, App Store (yep Apple lost a case on that) and Yo-yo among others all were lost in this way.

"Since its inception over 12(!) years ago, there's been a glaring animation-sized hole in React's API.

As its name implies, is based on the browser's powerful new View Transition API feature."

Google must have had a 'let's enshittify a bunch of stuff all at once and flood the zone' moment since as of yesterday in google maps desktop Safari, when I try to choose 'current location' instead of asking via the Geo API, it simply says 'Google Maps does not have permission to use your location' and essentially asks for permanent access.

In Mac Chrome still asks for permission to use the GEO Location API

Some PM at Google is looking like a genius today as Gemini adoption soars in gmail because it is a huge PITA to turn off (option buries miles deep in setting)

Meanwhile Proton the front runners for my migration away from Gmail turn out to be terrible folks, Fastmail have very poor labor relations to say the least–where should I go?

what if, and hear me out, the back end is becoming commoditised, coupled with a local-first philosophy and it's front end capabilities that will become increasingly important?

"The idea I keep coming back to is that the big platforms, like Dickens' Marley, were dead to begin with, and are now something particularly bad, which is dead on their feet."

this piece, 'Bad Shape' but @kissane is absolutely required reading.

It feels like the tobacco industry all over again., just speedrun.
