I made this copperplate print, "Shadow," in homage to a favorite Prince of Persia moment. It's one of five new artworks that will be shown at Galerie Maeght in Paris next Thursday, February 6.

Lorsque mon père est arrivé en France en 1938 en tant que réfugié âgé de 7 ans, il avait une famille nombreuse, des centaines de proches en Autriche et en France. Presque tous ont été assassinés. Il a survécu et m'a raconté leur histoire. #80ans #devoirdememoireM

When my dad came to France as a 7-year-old refugee in 1938, he had a large family with hundreds of relatives in Austria and France. By 1944, almost all had been murdered.
He survived to tell me their stories. #HolocaustMemorialDay #HolocaustRemembranceDay #WeRemember

To write and draw REPLAY, I used 3 color palettes (as in Apple II) for the 3 timelines: Blue💙for my younger years making games in 1980s-90s, yellow💛for present day, sepia🤎for my dad's and grandfather's stories.
Blue and yellow interweave in this 3-page excerpt about the never-completed 2D Prince of Persia trilogy.

The Internet is amazing. How else could I find out that Beat poet Allen Ginsberg took this photo in 1953 with my dad in the background, and it ended up in National Gallery of Art's collection?
You should have seen my dad's eyes pop when I showed it to him: "Where did you find this??"

We discussed the relationship between games, cinema and other arts; my personal experiences in the evolving game industry over 40 years; the ongoing efforts by individuals and organizations like @internetarchive to preserve game-development history; and Prince of Persia's evolution through the decades, to this year's The Lost Crown and my graphic novel REPLAY: Memoir of an Uprooted Family (now available in French, English and Spanish - https://www.jordanmechner.com/en/books/replay/ )
