Last weekend, the Political Tech Summit took place in Berlin. It claimed to bring politics and the tech scene together to discuss future topics. Tech companies such as Google, TikTok and Airbnb are participating as sponsors and some were represented by several speakers on panels. These sponsors represent the business interests of their CEOs and owners.
A critical debate on the dependence upon tech companies is urgently needed. However, it should take place without funding from tech companies.

Amazon, TikTok & Temu continue to rely on manipulative designs, even though the Digital Services Act (DSA) prohibits this, according to consumer group VZBV. The EU must ensure #DSA
enforcement, it should close regulatory gaps in the planned Digital Fairness Act (#DFA).

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a one-sided lobby forum with privileged access for corporations and their owners. We are in Davos to criticise this. Alternatives for a one-sided lobby forum are overdue.

Chinese e-commerce platform Temu does not declare any lobbying in Europe, neither in Brussels & Berlin nor at its headquarters in Dublin. Temu is evading contact and rules in order to expand aggressively. The EU must take tougher action against Temu. https://www.lobbycontrol.de/macht-der-digitalkonzerne/wie-sich-temu-der-politik-entzieht-119207/

Irritating to see new Competition Commissioner Ribera deliver one of her first political speeches at the annual conference of a consultancy that represents corporate clients against the Commission in merger cases. We hope to see other signals soon, such as a break-up of Google (Google-Adtech case). We call for an open, incluse competition policy that tackles monopoly power.

🚨Breaking news: with the beginning of the term, the European Comission increases transparency massively. From now on, more than 1500 officials need to disclose lobby meetings and minutes, 1100 more than before. 10 years ago, we came up with this demand. Now it is reality. Persistence works.

Our research on #BlackWeek shows that Amazon uses gifts and sponsorship to improve its reputation and silence critics. This makes it harder to have an open and critical debate about the negative effects of Amazon's monopoly power.

New evidence Amazon is abusing its market power. Surely interesting for competition watchdogs to consider new evidence revealed by Japan's competition authority & german TV station ARD. Time to make use of structural remedies against Amazon.
Here is what Japan's competition authority found: https://japantimes.co.jp/business/2024/11/26/companies/amazon-japan-raid/
Here is what ARD found: It has sources at hand that show how Amazon internally abuses its dominant position against businesses on its platform. https://tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/unternehmen/amazon-wettbewerbsfeindlich-100.html

Upcoming Competition Commissioner hearing: the next Competition Commissioner should ensure ambitious competition policy enforcement to challenge monopoly power: this means among other things to break up Google (Google-Adtech) despite US pressure not to do it, strongly enforce the #DMA against powerful gatekeepers and stop conflicts of interest at the EU's competition authority to restore its integrity and independence from corporate lobbyists. Here is how to do that: https://www.lobbycontrol.de/wp-content/uploads/agenda-dg-comp-conflicts-of-interest_LobbyControl.pdf
