I've been predicting that community-run conferences in the US will continue to shut down and here's the latest example. Those of you that went to THAT Conferences know it was one of the good ones. Sad to see it go away. https://thatconference.com/blog/that-conference-2025

If you are sitting around thinking, "You know what I need to start my weekend is a deeply bleak set of predictions for tech in 2025," then, boy, do I have the perfect post for you! Here's my predictions for 2025. I hope that I am wrong, but I am predicting a tough year for those of us working in the tech industry. https://remotesynthesis.com/blog/2025-predictions-for-tech/

Node now natively supports TypeScript, which is exciting news for people who love TS (seems like everyone nowadays), but it's important to know how to use it and the limitations. Check out this post by Axel Rauschmayer. https://buff.ly/3W8uId2

I agree with this outlook on gaming. In fact, as someone who was a console-only gamer for my entire life, I finally started "PC" gaming using an Asus ROG Ally X (thought about a Steam Deck, but this let's me easily use my Game Pass on my XBox and my portable PC). The experience isn't quite as smooth (it's just Windows), but just took a little adjustment. https://www.polygon.com/gaming/500266/pc-gaming-mainstream-console-comparison-2025

Last year I made some not-so-bold predictions about what 2024 would look like for developers. Despite my lack of boldness, I still managed a mediocre grade. I look back at my predictions to see what I got wrong (and what I got right). https://buff.ly/4gGfynO

2024 was an interesting year, filled with a bunch of challenges for me (as well as some exciting opportunities). 2025 is filled with lots of unknowns and some very big changes. https://remotesynthesis.com/blog/2024-year-in-review/

Such a great deep dive into the concept of "founder mode" and the mythology so prevalent in tech that we build around founders (they own the successes, but employees own the failures) by Charity Majors. https://charity.wtf/2024/12/17/founder-mode-and-the-art-of-mythmaking/

This was the best presentation I've seen yet about how large language models work under the covers and can really help guide your understanding of how generative AI determines it's response. I highly recommend giving it a watch. https://youtu.be/siGKUyTk9M0

Nice! Astro 5.1 includes experimental session storage. In my opinion, this is another huge step in making Astro a full-fledged web application framework versus a web site framework. https://buff.ly/49LZaj0

Actual content from a cover letter I received:
"Certainly! Here’s a cover letter-style revision:

Feel free to tweak this to match your tone or the specific role you’re applying for!"
If you're going to use ChatGPT, at least read what you paste!

If you're an AI skeptic, as I am, this article will reinforce all your doubts, backed up by actual facts and data. Don't get me wrong, I think generative AI can be useful in a number of situations but the hype hugely outweighs the usefulness. https://www.wheresyoured.at/godot-isnt-making-it/

This article encapsulates so many of the reasons that I have never been a React fan. I didn't feel like it built upon my knowledge of JavaScript, but, rather, forced me to learn to build things the React way. https://buff.ly/491fQm8

Nue is a new static site generator (SSG) that openly aims to be "better than Next.js" (yep, Next.js isn't just an SSG but I'm using their words). David Eastman gives it an initial walkthrough and is impressed by it's "design-first" approach. https://buff.ly/3V7R7qB
