[#]Genuary26: Symmetry
I think the outputs from this algorithm would make cool/interesting stained glass.

Somewhat hilariously, my creative coding library didn't support triangles. It could draw rectangles, circles, and lines in HDR really, really fast. But not triangles. π
No longer! Today I read some OpenGL specs and added fast tris to the mix. π
Small victories, lol.

I'm happy to let everyone know that my power came back on at noon and the loaves turned out just fine. π

Had todayβs sourdough loaves resting on the counter this morning for a 10am bake time. Then my power went out at 8:30, and is still out. Itβs not expected to be back on until 11:30. π
Iβm hoping/praying that my now-cold house will keep them from over-proofing. π€π»
Fun times!

Mentally preparing myself for near/not-so-near future by aggressively curating my muted keywords. Thankfully this is a thing on every platform I care about. π ππ»

Plotted an output from my recent #genuary triangular subdivision algorithm. Needs some color, IMO, but has potential.

I know that everyone here probably already agrees with this, but every time some new corporate social media platform pulls another rug from under its users, I'm reminded why I prefer the #fediverse over other options.
At least leaving these corporate sites is getting easier as my expectations are consistently lowered.

[#]Genuary 12/13/14: A line-based triangle subdivision algorithm
Three prompts in one project/day is some kind of record for me, but these all fit together so nicely I couldn't resist. I want to go back and color the tris, though. Soon.

[#]Genuary Day 8: Draw one milion of something
This is one million random values drawn from an 8 octave FBM, plotted as a continuously growing radial histogram with min/max values mapped into TAU. π

While I'm a fan of the messy lines that Bic ballpoints create, every so often I like to pull out my 0.2mm Rotring Isographs. Their immaculate ink flow and line consistency is incredible, and they excel at geometric abstractions like these.
Plotted with an #AxiDraw SE/A3 on 9"x12" Bristol paper using custom-mixed DeAtramentis Document inks.

My experiments with unpredictable mediums continue. This image is a single line drawn with a Bic Cristal ballpoint. I greatly prefer the artifacts caused by this type of pen when creating these works. The less reliable, the better!

When I've done this in the past, I've used Bic Cristal pens, which apparently shed ink at a much faster rate, as I'd routinely get large blobs of ink falling off of the nib and into the plot. Here I used Bic Xtra-Life and the ink blobs are substantially reduced. Interesting.

One interesting observation: I took this photo with light coming from the right side, and you can see a bright section in the middle of the image in the darkest area where the ink has accumulated to such an extent that it interacts with the incoming light, causing a reflection off of the surface of the ink.

Another experiment with oil-based ballpoint pens. This time I used a very small increment for each line, resulting in very slow progress and some interesting gradients as the ink accumulated in certain sections of the image.

A recent abstract geometric oil painting. In this case, I programmed a recursive algorithm to generate the overall structure, and then painted the result on 18"x24" ABS. The transformation from digital to physical via my own hands was deeply rewarding.

It's probably time for me to move my newsletter (which isn't even very active, tbh) off of Substack, as it seems pretty fundamentally at odds with my values. Anyone using beehiiv (https://www.beehiiv.com/) care to comment on their experience? I'm also interested in any other platform recommendations, if you have any. π

So begins the quinquennial (lol) process of building a new keyboard. π€that this one will be 'the one.'
I thought I had an endgame keyboard last build, but I stupidly didn't use hotswap sockets for my switches, which are now failing.
Building a KLOR (https://github.com/GEIGEIGEIST/KLOR) this time, which seems perfect for me.

I don't know why Hugo modules give me so much trouble, but I do know that introducing a magical virtual filesystem that can't be browsed while trying to debug a problem is certainly a choice. sigh
I'm probably missing something obvious, but these kinds of decisions make my inner grumpy old man sit up and take notice.
