1. Had a good day at the #pottery studio. I'm trying to make my first teapot. All component parts were thrown on the wheel (except the handle). Next up: trim the parts and put them together. (photo attached)

2. Went to Trader Joe's to pick up frozen Chinese Dumplings to celebrate Lunar New Year. Went off-list and got flowers, too. The roses look nice in my hand built slab vase. (photos attached)

January 2025, Costa Rica. A giant leafcutter ant nest at the base of a very thick trunk of a very tall tree. The ants were very busy going to the nest with their leaves and going out of the nest to collect leaves. These social insects are amazing farmers.

1. Made a pot out of old porcelain clay that a friend found in her basement. She's been keeping it for nearly 20 years and her husband told her to get rid of it. I was more than happy to help out. I like how this pot shaped up. (photo attached)

2. Happy Robbie Burns Night! Celebrating with Laphroaig Scotch Whiskey and two of my handmade ceramic shot cups (glasses?), plus Burns poetry recitations. (photo attached)

2. The young woman I was coaching through a job application process and negotiations just secured a good job, with better pay, great benefits, and good professional development opps.

3. My new organic latex + cotton + wool mattress arrived and it's super comfy. 😴

My husband brought a toy home for our sweet Pitbull who has jaws of steel and delights in ripping apart her stuffed animals. This rabbit was advertised as being nearly indestructible. We'll just see about that.

I'm trying to get used to working with porcelain clay. It's super hard! It's like throwing cream cheese. But I did manage to throw two 1-lb bowls this morning, and that seemed like a miracle. If I don't mess-up the trimming tomorrow, and if it doesn't crack in the bisque firing, and if the glaze looks nice in the end, etc...

It is currently 5 degrees F (-8 with windchill factor) where I live. My sweet dog, with very little fur, is now communicating with us when we need to get the fireplace revved up for her. She stares at us and whines, then runs over to the fireplace and looks at it, then comes to us and whines--on repeat. Once the fire is going, she lies in front of it and doesn't move until mealtime. Wow, she's doing a great job training her humans!

2. On first day saw a toucan eating a banana in the wild (video attached) and a young three-toed sloth, plus dozens of different species of birds.

3. Great view of the active volcano Arenal in La Fortuna.
